Behind you... Naked!
I am just going nuts with this... I semi-sort-of-almost managed to sort of half do it before, but Im completely at a loss to be honest.

I currently use WMC to record my TV and its flawless, its easy and it works 100% exactly as I need it to.

I have even bought Windows 8.1 with WMC purely for my Media PC.

With MS stopping support for it, I am soon going to lose WMC abilities on that PC and so I have tried various other Media Centre software.

In all honesty, I prefer JRiver, but KODI is clearly the winner going by what you see... The thing is, that I just cannot get it to watch Terrestrial TV? and obviously therefore, I cannot get it to record the TV programs either?

Is there a simple way to do this?

I would really like to know because this is semmingly a complex thing to do?

WMC till I die. :p

I know MS don't have it windows 10 but who says 7/8.1 is going to stop working? Assuming you have freeview, you can still get program info over the air even if the internet guides were stopped. I know this from having no internet in the past.

I had to drop WMC because it stopped working with my T2 turner, some channels like BBC3 and 4 HD wasn't being picked up.

I am in an area that irritatingly half picks up extra channels, so that sometimes I have 2 ITVs and 2 BBC 1's and so on... Every single time I do a search, it shows different results.
This often leads to it sometimes trying to record from achannel that no longer exists.

I have set it up to record Emmerdale and Corrie and Holby for example, and sometimes it records and sometimes not.

I have had to get it to record EVERY single copy of every episode just to make sure that among the programs, I have at least one whole episode, but sometimes it has the night time one with the sign language extra and sometimes it seems to have added dialog for the blind too! - and the number of episodes that are 1minute long is ridiculous!

This however, is a very very small issue.

I was blaming it at first on the fact that I was trying to use 2 PCI cards and then the issue still happened when I went to a single card with 2 tuners and now that I have 2 cards with 2 tuners each, I tsill get it.

I could be crycling through thechannels and sometimes the yare there and sometimes they are not.

Anyway, thats a small moan.

DVB Viewer.
Ok, yes, I went down this route for a short while too!
I will have another play, but is there any simple way to do that too?

Who says Win 7/8 is going to stop working
Erm Microsoft are. What they are doing, is a slow rolling upgrade path now, and small parts of Win 7 and win 8 are bit by bit being exchanged to Windows 10 code, and so that in the end, they will have eventually changed your Windows 7 install, into a Windows 10 install, all behind your back and without your permission.
They are of course going to stop supporting all the old O/Ses and 7 and 8 are among them, so we are ok for a few more years, but after that, Even Windows 10 will be no more, it will only be the one Windows OS, and it will be a permanently updated operating system that we will all be using. with no home / pro / basic / server versions as such, just windows.

Ok maybe I am a tad paranoid, but that is definitely what MS are doing.
As for a MediaPC, I have already come to the conclusion, that if WMC is all that I need for a nice basic MediaCetre, then sure... I dont need all the junk of going to Win10 and so, I think I will make up an ISO of Win with WMC along with all the updates that are up to date, minus the Win10 extra ones that call up for Win10 and then simply disable the updates and i'm in, after all, what more do I need?

I even have the original Win XP-MCE 2005 and that still works fairly well... Although you can certainly see there are many differences.

Anyway, I have been toying about with DVB Viewer today, and Im seriously thinking of buying it.

Im not 100% happy with it, I wont lie, but it does seem to be something that I can work with, just as long as I can work out what the hell its talking about because I watched the snooker in Llandudno today with FU vs UN-NOON and the viewer seemed to be neear perfect for my needs, but the demo limited me a great deal and so will it work as well as MCE? Probably not, but do I have a choice? If its supported well enough, then sure, it will be a perfect choice, but if its not, then thats more money down the swanney!

20 euros though is a fair price isnt it?

I use NextPVR (free/donationware) and for scheduling , recording and watching over the air, tv, there is nothing better in my view.

The native interface is designed for use with a TV and remote but works perfectly in windows mode on a pc using mouse/keyboard.

There is a PVR module in Kodi so that you can use the Kodi frontend and the NextPVR backend recording service to schedule your recordings. Or keep it simple and just use NextPVR on it's own without Kodi. Again, that depends on whether you want all the extra features of kodi.

NextPVR?
FREE?

Ok, did you just wait until I paid for DVB Viewer or what? LOL

Ok, I will absolutely have a look, and sure, in Kodi and on its own, I will have a look.

Thanks.

WOW, this NextPVR is pretty bloody good isnt it?

I have already set it up, got a load of channels in and I have also added a few more folders, so its a Media Centre and TV Recorder, and it works with the MCE remote.

I love it.

Trouble is, that I have just paid for DVB Viewer and I am supposed to get a link or something to let me download the full prog, but so far thats not happened, and now I have to pay for this too!

I will hold of for a couple of days, see what the full DVB Viewer can do for me first, but from what I am seeing, I am certainly liking.

Thanks all.

You are suppose to get a link with your login details. Takes you to their forums were you can download DVB viewer and register it.

I tried NextPVR, worked well but after a few days the sound was out of sync or took 3 seconds to change channels, unless a rebooted my MC. Which was no good to me as it was always in standby for scheduled recordings.

Lets see, over the years I have used GB PVR -> Next PVR and then finally
settled on media portal

I have it installed on all my PC's and I can communicate with my server PC (that has 2 x DVB-S2 + 2 x DVB-T2 tuner cards in it)

Its pretty damn good

Supposed to!

Never got any such thing.

Unless I missed it... I will check my emails and junk and so on, but I have already done that... I will check again.

Next PVR & Not when on standy by?

You're Joking? I would have thought on a Media PC that records TV, that would be fairly vital to be honest... So, in other words, I need to keep the thing from ever going on standy-by for it to work?

Poor.

SchiboPVR? - Not heard of it?
I will check it out for sure!

--

Media Portal.
Again, another one I have given the rounds. Its ok, it just didnt gel with me.

MCE on Win 10
Yes, you are not the only person to way that.
Is there any links you can offer to help me?

I think they might manually send out the emails rather than automatically, as mine took a couple of hours to come through last year.

So long as it isn't against any rules.

Well, small update for those who would like to know.

I have had a small issue with NextPVR in that whenever I change the channel, it seems to pause badly. In saying this, the test machine is using a cheap and nasty USB stick TV Card and so I dont know how it will dowhen I try it on a proper TV device... If there is any difference, I dont know to be completely honest.

It also seems to hang all too often.

Now, in saying this, I did slect a few programs to record the other day, and quite honestly, I forgot all about them until last night, when I stumbled upon them accidentally, and sure enough, they were recorded as I wanted them, and they seemed to play throughout ( never actually sat and watched them, just quickly run through them ) and so teh recording side if it clearly works too.

So, sure,I can work with that if I can get it to stop hanging on me.

Not sure how it fares with any other device that the one USB stick I have tried it with, so again, I need to do more messing about.

Now as to DVB Viewer, I bought and paid for that a short while ago, and I have still yet to receive any EMails with any links from them.

I sent a message to them informing me of this, but earlier on today I recieved an email from the sercers telling me that the mail has not gone.

I am not willing to put up with this and so I have tried one last time to get hold of these people using another email address, and if it fails again, I will be contacting Paypal for a refund.

I dont know why this has happened but they took my money quickly enough, so why dont they give me a link to get the full app?

meanwhile I have held off on coughing up any for NextPVR and yet it seems to be working well enough to justify paying for it. I will just pay them the money trhat gets refunded from DVB Viewer unless I get the link, and then if that happens, I will give that one last shot and if not, I will pay NextPVR instead.

WMC on Win10
Well that turned out quite funky. I did it on my daughters PC and now it wont boot up, so I am doing a fresh install. Obviously PebKac, but Im not going to admit that am I? - oops! LOL.

^^

Thanks for the updates FatRakoon.

I've been using WMC since Vista and now on Windows 8.1 with the Plex server and client running on the same HTPC.

Recently discovered the Recorded TV HD plug-in which helps organise recordings.

The above setup works great and is easy enough for the family to use. But we've started using Kodi in the last couple of weeks and we have to get the keyboard out to switch between WMC and Kodi. So I've been thinking about giving something like NextPVR a go and make a full move to Kodi.

How does Kodi/NextPVR handle recorded TV from other clients. Is it easy to stream the content to other devices?

I'm still learning how to use Kodi and from I've read there is no server / client setup like Plex where videos are marked as watched / unwatched and progress is tracked. There is a Plex add-on for Kodi so I continue to use Plex but how would it work for Recorded TV from NextPVR?
