Hi all,

Just put my water cooled PC back together. Had it running for 8 months prior to that. Been using Fesa Aqua bi-distilled water, silver kill coil and feser base corrosion blocker. I noticed that when I pulled the loop apart that the koolance water block (full cover) I have for the 4870x2 had some brown patches underneath the koolance lettering. I've since run some hot water through it but didnt really shift it.

Cut a long story short, never really thought anything of it and put all system back together, new tubing, barbs etc.. the temps on the card are the same as when I first got it. Idle low 30's and gaming high 30's.

I'm starting to worry about it now and thinking I should have taken block apart to clean perhaps?

Will it be fine to use for another 8-12 months as it is? Nowhere else in my loop has this colour.

Hope someone can help, made a really good job of putting it all back and I think I'll cry if I have to drain it to sort it.

Thanks,

RoEy

Managed to take a pic on my phone, sorry quality is crap but should help you all understand where I'm coming from.

Is it really bad and should be cleaned or will be ok for another year?

I've got bi distilled water in there, silver coil and corrosion blocker, so I'm mythed as to why its like this in 8 months? Heatkiller is fine, so is rad, res etc..

Corrosion and Algae tend to form when the coolant mixture not appropriate. If corrosion or algae appear in your loop, both noticeable by heavy temperature increases, you should thoroughly clean every component with alcohol and then remix another batch of coolant and start over.

Try that CRL (Calcium, rust lime) solution ? <- not sure if this is recommended for water cooling components

is the logo a window into the block?
Not sure what I'm looking at.

Yes it is mate, so you can see what the block looks like on the inside.

Just need to know whether or not it's imperative I clean it now or can I use it for a good while?

Temps are brill as ever.

I really dont think it is worth cleaning, just use simple distilled and some ptnuke and corrosion ihibitor.

Thanks for the info mate. It's really been bugging me. Like I said every other part in the loop is spotless and the temps on the card are superb. I guess I'll just need to do it next time.

I'm using Feser Aqua Bi-distilled water, silver kill coil and feser corrosion blocker.

Thanks again, that's a weight off my mind.

Am I right in thinking that the 'stains' are on a higher part of the block (not in contact with the coolant)
If so it just looks like a bit of discolouration in the metals surface (or plating)
But I'd not worry about it - keep an eye on it (say monthly) but looks like natural discolouration due to uneven heat load.

Yeah you've made a good point. I guess it could be that and you've made me feel a lot better about it. thank you very much. Spent all weekend building system so I'd of slit my wrist taking it apart. I'll get some photos upload of it soon.

Thank you again,

RoEy
