Ive been looking at going watercooling, but my case wouldnt fit an internal one, so i was looking externally.

Ive had the zalman before and wasnt impressed with the cooling power of it, so i was thinking of going koolance, the new exos has 2 x 120mm fans, so it should be quiet, its only 6mm tubing, can you get other blocks to suit this or would i have to go with koolances ?

Id be cooling gpu (x1800) and my san diego 3700.

Does anyone have this and what sort of performance do you get from it? It would cost about £330 with the two blocks.

Do standard X850 blocks fit X1800's?

koolance is **** no other word, if you have that much cash to blow then i advise the following;

swiftech storm / dd tdx
thermochill pa120.3
D5 pump
maze 4/mcw60
masterclear 7/16 tubing
T-line

What case would you recommend. In the same boat. The Koolance can handle 700 watts of heat surely that ain't **** ?

Mount a rad on top of case, T-line there too, pump in case (go through bottom pci slots, will need to remove one) then to the blocks and back. If you get a koolance, you:

a) Will spend more money

b) Get lesser performance

c) Want to go custom in the end anyhow

Find a way to make a custom fit (PA160 even?) you will be much much happier :)

Sure it'll cool it ok, but probably no better than a HSF, and current GPU's kick out a shedload of heat.

My first W/C venture was an exos a few years ago, I regretted it after a month, and now have a fully custom h20 loop, just wished I had listened then ;)

That seems like a lot of money just because you cannot fit it in your case. For £350 I got a Koolance PC3-725 which is a twin 120mm cooler with a Lian-Li V1000B+ case (worth £140 of anyone's money). OK - the blocks were an extra £60, but it's still a better solution than the EXOS in my opinion. If you have a good quality case at the moment, you could probably sell it and recover some of the outlay.

As regards performance - I am getting readings at the socket of 40C on my Dual Core HT P840, that's 10 degrees lower than the old arctic freezer 7 was giving. It's also silent apart from a bit of bubbling now and again.

Koolance also do smaller cases for less money, but I have no experience of them, so I cannot comment on them.

I was going to buy the 725 and still tempted by the neat solution. Do you no the actually difference between the 725 and say a Apex in cooling performance? Also how loud is it? Is it a case in auto you can set a desired temp and the auto setting will try and maintain that by adjusting the fan speeds? Really torn what to do.

No, I don't know what the performance is like relative to the Apex. I'm not that good with my hands so I tend to go for ready made solutions.

It's pretty quiet, the loudest thing in the PC are the HDD and the PSU fans (Hiper 580R) but if I turn off the air conditioning in the computer room then it does start to make some noise.

There is an auto mode, and it's very quiet. It operates in stages rather than you being able to pick a temperature to run at.

You also need to be aware that good case cooling is essential with this kit as the air is drawn out of the case and through the radiators so hot, stagnant air in the case is a recipe for bad cooling performance. I have Akasa Ambers all blowing in and this helps enormously.

You also need to be aware that these systems can only cool against the ambient air temperature. They perform significantly worse in a hot room than a cold one. You will also see a more marked improvement with a hotter processor (P4).

On paper this is a very expensive piece of kit, but factor in the cost of the case and it starts to look more reasonable, but they are always going to be relatively expensive for what they are.

I did some testing last night and i cant get my cpu past 2.7 even if i up the volts with the side off and a big fan blowing on it, so ive decided not to buy the koolance, and instead spend the money on whores and alcohol.
