Anybody know if Knight of the Old Republic (the original) is still available new for the PC? I seem to remember it being only £5 in loads of places, but now it's a nightmare to find it?

Hmm had a quick look around and i cant find it, hate it when old pc games become hard to find. Luckily managed to pick up system shock 2 off a mate of mine, been trying to find it for a while.

its outrageous, I was in that highstreet video game store looking everywhere. I cant think of the games off by hand but I remember being disgraced at the choice available, they have such rubbish games and not a quality game like kotor.

They sell crowd pleasers / popular sellers, which obviously makes business sense.

It's hard to find oldish classics or enthusiasts' games in shops, so ebay/2nd hand is the best bet for kotor.

Funnily enough I was looking for this only tonight to buy someone as a present.

The best deal I could find is the "Star Wars: Best Of" compilation for £17.99. This includes:

KOTOR
JK2: Jedi Outcast
Empire At War
Republic Commando
Battlefront
14 day Galaxies trial (WOW!!!)

To be fair I don't think this is a bad price, KOTOR is a fantastic game, JK2:JO and RC are reasonable shooters and EAW is supposed to be pretty decent. Battlefront is a bit of a turd and no doubt anyone interested in Galaxies will have tried it by now, but overall I think that compilation is worth it unless you have most of them already.

Finding a brand new copy of KOTOR in stock at a reputable dealer is pretty tough so this may be worth considering.

As an aside, it is kinda frustrating that once they get a few years old the bargain basement games sometimes actually go UP in price. Tonight I also shelled out £7.99 on Far Cry and £9.99 on San Andreas. I know FC was a fiver maybe a year ago.

It's three and a half years old, what did you expect?

I think the point he is making is that older (and inferior) games are available on the high street, but KOTOR isn't. I was browsing the budget aisle the other day and there was plenty of old, average games.

I guess the main problem is that the publisher hasn't re-released it as a budget title per se (i.e. the 'Sold Out'/Xplosiv type range). They've decided to go down the compilation pack route as I outlined above instead.

Yeah, looks like a misread it, sorry about that DB_SamX.

I do agree that the budget section in stores is prety dire (I love that Theme Hospital is still getting sold though :D). I guess it's because licensing crappy games that sold badly is a lot cheaper than licensing the big hitters. It doesn't help that the ratio of good to bad games is heavily weighed in the latters favour either :(

KOTOR will probably turn up in the Lucasarts Classic range eventualy or maybe as a double pack with KOTOR 2.

The thing I don't understand is when you get old sports games on Budget, like FIFA 2004, CM03/04 etc. I mean, you can get FM2007 for under a tenner even on the high street these days, who in their right mind would wanna get a 4 year out of date version for the sake of a few quid? OK so maybe people with really crappy computers it might be worthwhile, but if they really wanted it I would have thought them to buy it years ago.

I used to work for said high street games retailer.

Lucas Arts to have some sort of budget re-release range - it has a yellow/purple border iirc. However their availability is tiny, so whenever we used to receive the old classics: Sam & max, indiana jones, and the few star war ones, they used to go quite quickly.

With regards to sports classics, it has to do with the players in. I have friends who still prefer CM03/04 or late nineties one just becasue it reminds them of a particular footie season. I remember playing CM (season of 96-97) about 4/5 years ago - Man Utd when there still was Cantona, Pallister, Irwin etc I think - good times :D

And THeme Park, THeme hospital - these actually sell really well at a bargain 3 for £10 - as I said, they are easy to get into games and generally fit the mass market, from kids to adults.

This is one reason why I'd love SI to come out with 'Football Manager Generations' - a game with a huge database of players from the past 15 years. You could then pick your starting year, and as time progresses you'd see real life youth players getting added to the relevant squads. So say you started a game back in 1992, after maybe 4 seasons Liverpool might get a young Michael Owen appearing in their squad. Obviously this might make things a bit easy (knowing what wonderkids to look out for), but I still think it could be fun.

Anyway, getting a bit off topic here :)

You NEED KOTOR 1 - I still have it and played through it again a couple of months ago, it is SOOO good

*Deleted the competitor link sorry*

There you go, still quite pricey I suppose, but it is worth it, a stunning game

****EDIT****
Ok you can get it from a certain website named after a certain tropical rainforest in Brazil.....

@HangTime: You are the man (probably, on these forums), that's the best deal. I've already got three of the games in the pack, but I can gift them to potential multiplayers, and the pack as a whole is cheaper than the profiteers on Brazilian rainforests.

Ordered, from the tax free haven of Jersey.

Web search for "Star Wars: The Best of PC" .

Only problem is though how could you actually make your own team? Say if i was managing Arsenal i'd have to take Henry and sell Anelka otherwise it would mess up the 'generations' timeline.

The only options you'd have are to change tactics, which wouldn't be all bad, just not really 'champo'. Also training would'nt really change a player because they'd have to improve automatically to achieve their future versions, unless you'd like to get a young michael owen and then ruin him through bad training and bad management :p could be fun i guess.

Good idea but i can't see how it would work very easily.

I assumed he just meant a standard football manager game but you could start at what year you choose.

Thats what i thought, but then i'd be annoyed if Barcelona wouldn't sell me fabregas or Henry left on a free :p the concept only really works for youth players, would be unfair if the game didn't let me buy Anelka but then gave Owen to the scouse for nothing.
