KOTOR MMORPG?

I've come across a couple of reports about a MMORPG based on KOTOR is being made by Bioware. While I’m very interested in what Bioware can bring to a very stagnant genre (imo), I would rather have seen another single player KOTOR game. Especially since the first one (Bioware only made the 1st game if you don't know) is possibly one of the finest games I’ve ever played.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: Looks like i'm a little late the party, http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17728706&highlight=knights+republic :o

It's been around for ages that lucasarts arn't happy with the way SOE have been running Starwars Galaxies. Even at that early stage, Bioware were mentioned because of their history of great RPGs.

I think sony's license on star-wars expires soonish so it would be the time that they would get told to pull it by Lucasarts and then Bioware could get the go-ahead.

Personally I would much MUCH rather see a Bioware Baldurs Gate MMO, or some other Forgotten Realms one.

Just not overly interested in starwars

Yeah but Turbine or Atari own the rights to MMO versions of D&D.

SWG was my first and greatest experience with MMO's. Any prospect of someone more professional than Sony publishing something new would be followed with great interest by many. It is arguably one of the biggest licenses in entertainment and obviously has a cult and hardcore following.

Yeah, I am probably just tainted somewhat, as SWG was one of my worst MMO experiences, I had hoped it would be somewhat of a natural successor to UO, but sadly...like pretty much every MMO released since UO, it didnt even come close to being anywhere near as good. :(

SOE have to renew their Star Wars License each year, and rumours each year that LA Will pull it are spread. But normaly not the case. SWG Was a great game to start with, very true to Star Wars, and very entertaining, however the 2 revisions of the game making it basic and WoW/Disney like have ruined it.

LA can only allow their to be one license out for a SW MMO at any one time, but their is a catch, it is a license for a set period of time, and because SWG is set in the original Trilogies timeline, it is possible that Bioware could release and host a KOTOR MMO at the same time.

However considering both Perception, and Bioware were just purchased by EA, I would not hold my breath on getting the MMO, nor another decent KOTOR game for that matter....

Well if these rumours are true then a contract for it would have been drawn up by LA and Bioware way before they were bought up by EA so lets hope they have as EA shouldn't be able to interfere then.

Myself being a SWG fan (Pre combat upgrade of course) I'm very interested in whether a new Star Wars MMO is in the making. News that the RPG king Bioware are involved make it even better, lets see if it goes ahead.
