Meh, got over 2 hours into KOTOR this time (over a period of a few days of light playing) before the crashes started. Using a Radeon 9600 Pro video card (I know, it's prehistoric, don't rub it in...) which I know has problems with the game, but it's patched to the latest version, and installed onto a pretty clean hard drive with a relatively fresh Windows install.
I've always had problems with the KOTOR games, and never been able to fix them...even their tech support couldn't help me, after some lengthy conversations (they never admitted that as such, but they were just going in circles with the solutions). Tech support kept telling me to update an old soundcard driver or something, but there isn't actually a newer driver as far as I could tell, so I never got very far. But I digress...
Basically looking to see if anyone knows how to fix this. The KOTOR games are great, but total system freezes every few minutes (requiring a reboot to fix) aren't fun. I'm still on Taris - I know Dantooine has severe problems with 9600s, can't recall if Taris does though. Both KOTOR games do this, the second one moreso than the first...I actually had a warning come up on the character selection screen saying 'I am broken, so very very broken' instead of the names of the characters (and all the characters had disappeared, so I was effectively solo - that was a savegame bug of some sort, I think).
Thanks
