OK playing it for the first time, and absolutely loving it. Downloaded a little file, from wsgf and got it all running in lovely 1080P :D

But I feel a little bit confused on the combat. I picked a scoundrel because I wanted to be like han solo - a kind of tough guy character, but deep down is a good guy.

But It seems to be such an awkward class to play, I just play it the same as I do a solider except I do less damage and have less health. Stealth seems absolutly useless and tedious as you have to go into solo mode every time - what's it useful for? Any tips on how to play one?

Also the "feats", none seem very useful. I have a sniper attack which appears to use no "mp" or have any disadvantages so I just spam this

Any advise would be great, thanks a bunch.

P.S
I'am just coming outside of the sewers, after having rescued the chewbacca.

Stealth is great with high demolition. I made mincemeat of the rancor by laying a path of mines, getting a decent bit away and waving at it. I was actually a bit depressed at how easily I defeated the big beasty.

My tips are:

- Play a scout but don't put more than 5 levels in it. The first part of the game will be harder as you will be a few levels behind but it's worth it in the long run. - I believe Han Solo is a scout anyway.

- Download 'Brotherhood of Shadow: Solomons Revenge', a very good player expansion that add many hours worth of new quests.

- I played the whole thing without touching stealth... It's useless IMHO.

- Scout/Guardian is a brilliant combination

- Dual wielding is very, very powerful. It also allows double the number of sabre upgrades, natch.

- Concentrate on one type of comabt feat, i.e 'critical strike' or 'flurry'.

- Implant feats are very useful.

- You need 17 repair (I think) to get the most out of one of your companions.

Sorry to chime in on an old thread but I'm just thinking of picking this game up but wondered if it was worth starting with the first one or going straight to KOTOR II??
Is there any benefit in starting with the first one?

Thanks......

First one, not just because of the story following on. But because I realised after posting this thread that kotor is one of the best games I've ever played.

KOTOR is better than KOTOR II so you'll want to play it at some point. There are a couple of links in the story (although nothing too major that I can remember aside from the history of one of the characters) so it would make sense to play the original first.

Been playing the first one over the last couple of days. The only thing is that it crashes about once every hour or so. Updated to the lastest too.

I've only played KOTOR2, dont ask me how i started that way. But it was a fantastic game, i bought it off ebay a few months ago for another blast :). Had a bit of trouble getting it to run on vista if i recall...

Still crashing. Has anyone come across any fixes or info that might help please? Shame, really am enjoying this too:(

Should mention I did read check up on one forum and it was suggested to add a line in one of the files to (from memory) Disable Vertex Objects=1. This has made no difference either way.

That vertex tweak was mainly for a strange slowdown/stuttering problem that occurs on Dantooine on some gfx cards I think.

I read that it might be to do with multi core cpus and that disabling all except one of the cores might sort it out. Not sure how you'd do that, task manager maybe?
Am reluctant to sell this game, its way too good, I expect it will run better on an older nvidia card. Worth a shot anyway.

Could try launching the game, opening task manager, right clicking the process and going to set affinity and unchecking one or more of your processors (depending if youre on dual or quad core)

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I can't obviously tell where Kotor is within running processes and I don't know how to uncheck a cpu core there either. Have had a look but nothing jumped out at me. I am using a quad core.

Launch up the game, bring up task manager and go to the Applications tab, you should see KOTOR there, right click on it and select "Go to process" that will take you directly to it.

Then you right click that go down to Set affinity and you should see a CPU list right the way up to 30 something. Deselect/uncheck all of them except CPU 0 and you will then be only allowing one processor to run the game.
