Kraken or alternative?

really loving this now with my H55,

+87mV
111% power
Core Clock + 170
Mem clock +450

under load it sits at about 55c and is deadly silent. Deffo worth getting it.

I had my 290x reference fan whirr up on some longer games and thought that has to be resolved!

Like a jet taking off, so looking forward to trying this mod and even clock it a tad to still run cooler + quieter.

Whats the cooler of choice on the kraken then? I have the Carbide 540 with a rear 140mm fan spot.

You really don't need anything more than a single rad, single thickness to be honest dude. GPUs are about half as hot as the CPUs these coolers were designed for.

Your GPU will crap out long before the cooling does IMO.

Just a quick update. I braided the pumps.

And have ordered a few bits and bobs. Most notably a molex - 6 3 pin PCB made by Phobya and a couple of 3 pin extensions I'll also braid. The next big thing is ordering 40 heatsinks and all of the pads and thermal tape. Not gluing anything....

Is thermal tape good enough then? Will order some when I decide on the cooler.

Worked OK when I put some sinks on the back of my 480 Lightning....

More work done. What I'm trying to do here is make it look at least somewhat custom. Any one can just bolt a AIO onto a GPU....

So first up, tested the compass my lady bought for me.

Worked well :D

OK now for the center rad cover. Mark.

Mark the tube placement..

And cut.

Clean and peel.

And, with a little anti kink.

Got these today, expect heavy modding.

Also got this which will be the distro for all of the pump/fans.

And finally I braided all of the cable extensions.

More soon :)

U having all the pumps and fans running off a molex?

Well got this the other day so now waiting on a cooler for the right price!:

Andy that is one SUPERB halogen oven you have in the kitchen! not so keen on the ASDA sauce..

;)

lmao yeah man we love that thing ! chicken or duck legs slow cooked. D.rool.

We don't usually have Asda sauce on a Monday, usually Levi Roots but it didn't come :( some Caribbean curry we have. :D

Still trying to decide if I want to fit the Krakens really. Or if I want to fit them with/without VRM cooling or if I want to wait for the Corsairs.

That's the only real hold up now.

I've got my vrm heatsink in the window atm temps are find and no thermal throttling so cant see the need to take mine appart atm.

Deffo big improvements over stock cooling though

Yeah I'm beginning to realise that a 1mm piece of alu probably doesn't even cool them any way.

Right. So today I ordered two all black 92mm fans. It's highly annoying that NZXT supply black and white fans with a black adapter. Very, very annoying but thankfully £4 for two Antecs will do.

OK so it's time to tackle the ugly adapter itself. Time to give it a bit of a custom shove ;)

Draw.

Send to plotter.

One.

Both.

And I'm a lot happier with them than I was an hour ago.

Just waiting on the fans now and then with a bit more cutting with the plotter and so on I should be ready to fit.

Any update yet Andy?

I have eyes on a refurbished Corsair H55 for £30 just gotta sneak it past the missus ;)

Yeah bad news sadly. The hoses on the H55 are so short I can't make the assembly fit no matter what I tried.

So for me at least she's a no go. Not an issue I can use both Hh55s in my other rigs but back to stock and 8 hours down the drain.

Not doing anything else now. I want my spring holiday and new phone so not spending any more now :)

Thats handy, im toying with the idea of getting a sheet of acrylic and just making a temporary side panel with a fan cut out. Wont need a peice to cover the whole area of the side panel. The 5.25 bays and hdd bays on the primo are all sheeted off. So ill just butt it up against that part. Would save the bother of cutting the stock panel.

.

it's very hard to cut Acrylic sheet, it just shatters or it leaves hairline cracks while you're sawing though it, i wouldn't bother.

i used perforated Aluminium sheet instead.

Well with a little jiggle and some modding I managed to come up with this...

And then...

Fits like a literal glove. There isn't a mm to spare !

Close at the back too !

And the CPU H55..

Hurrah ! AIOs coupled with two 600 RPM Noiseblockers and this rig is absolutely and utterly whisper quiet. I've also got the 180mm Penetrators on low speed so it just sits there purring away.

Well happy. Everything happens for a reason, so I guess the TBs were meant to stay on air whilst the 480 Lightning got the AIO treatment. :D :D

lmao the GPU is cooler than the CPU.. GTX 480 Lightning... Now I've seen it all :D :D

Another great thing is the Lightning has a front and back plate so no VRM worry :D
