Krav Maga for a beginner??

I've never heard of this before, well I knew the Israelis practiced a unique type of hand to hand combat but didn't know the name and details etc.
It sounds really interesting to be honest, I went to Karate for about 3 lessons when I was a kid but never got interested as i didn't really see how I could use it if I got jumped on the street.
I'm looking into this as i need to do something to keep fit but a brief look comes up with no clubs in Prague, I was a bit surprised as the guy who started it was meant to have come from the former Czechoslovakia, admittedly from he Slovakian side but still.

Actually, I think English and Welsh Law (and CPS guidance) says "reasonable", this is not the same as "minimal".

It's also what you consider to be reasonable at the time. If you rip someone's testicles off when they come at you with a knife, chances are that while it may go to court, you're probably going to be ok.

If someone comes at you with a knife, you knock them unconscious THEN rip their testicles off, then you may find yourself in a lot of trouble... :)

Friend of mine broke some idiot's arm when he was attacked in a shop (of all places), police said he was acting in self defence and that's as far as it went.

As has already been said Krav Maga is a self defence system developed by the Israeli army which focuses on disarms, reversals and disables. If somebody points a gun in your face, you take them down and steal their gun while your doing it.

Looks a lot like what I will be doing (as soon as I can get my fitness up after the last year of hell for me...)
The instructor im using also works at the same company...I just didnt know he was a bit of a nutter :D

If someone tries to attack me, I'm gonna do whatever is possible to stop them. It really frustrates me that the atackee has to play by the rules even when being attacked and could be killed. I mean really wtf?

A mate of mine teaches KV in North London and I've been thinking about taking it up for a while. The number of clubs and instructors that that appeared recently is staggering though.

Some of the clubs do claim that there is a grading structure, but I think that this is because the teaching association is fractured in two about where to go with KV - there are those who want to aggressively brand it and make loads of money from merchandise and those who want to teach people fitness and self defence.

I think my mate charges £5 a session because he just want to teach and help people rather than simply take people's money.

The one place it will cost you though is in protection. I'd advise a box of some description, a head guard and pads of you are going to take it seriously. Also you will get battered in the face at some point so don't expect to get away without a shiner or two.

I downloaded a beginners guide to it and yes Krav Maga is brutal it's all about hitting them so it induces shock or temporary paralysis and I think in this day and age with gangs of chavs running around killing people it's a handy thing to know.

However if you don't want to kill the person just download the US Army field manual it's basically the same but with 90% less death.

Nice vid, problem I have with a lot of MA's though is that the person who is "attacking" you is generally pretty compliant i.e. they're not REALLY trying to put up a fight.

Fighting a resisting opponent is a whole different kettle of fish.
