Hi,

Sorry about the new thread but i couldnt find anything on this issue,

I have just purchaced the Krypton Intel Core i7 930 Overclocked bundle from OCUK.

It arrived and was installled with no issues. The BIOS picks up the 4.01ghz overclock fine but once booted into Windows 7 Pro 64bit Windows only recognises the stock 2.80ghz. Does anyone know if iv missed something or is there an issue here?

Thanks
Ed

Yeah same issue here LOL, drops in speed with all power saving features disabled.. And you wont find the option : speedstep, in the bios..

Could u please tell me a bit more about your setup? Which case are you using and which hsf did u order, also what are your temps like at load, using prime95 or LinX.. assuming you've run tests already. I've had my cpu hit 100c at 4ghz, with a noctua se2 fan, and recently having upgraded to a megahalem hsf, the temps still hit 94c.

To the OP, windows may not see the overclock, but does CPU-Z? If so - then you are fine.

As for speedstep - keep it on. Its a clever feature, keeps the power draw and heat low and ramps up the immediately speed when its needed. If you go into the BIOS trying to turn it off you may end up turning off something your shouldn't.

Hey, Its the basically the OCUK Viper, it has a Corsair H50-1 cooling it. CPU-Z reports it as a 2.80ghz too. Not to sure about the load tests, ill run them now and let you know. I didnt find speedstep in the bios but all the power saving features were off. This is really odd.

Ok, so with Prime95 running for about 5 minutes the temp jumps up to 95 degrees.

I dont understand why the BIOS will say 4.01ghz then once booted into Windows it drops to 2.80 :(

Wow.. recorded using which program?

My temps are similar. But you're using water cooling..

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the bios settings ocuk ship the bundle out with. Volts wise, slightly on the high side, causing high temps..

I have 3.66ghz running at max 72ish, atm, using a megahalem..

That's speedstep - your overclock is working fine. When the CPU is put under serious load you should see the multiplier jump to 21x (21x191= 4011MHz) and you will be getting the speed you expect. To see this, just run Prime95 with CPU-Z open. Why do you want it at 4GHz all the time? If the CPU needs more speed - it will instantaneously increase the multiplier to 21x.

As for your high temps, did you plug the H50 pump (3 pin connection) into a motherboard fan header or into the PSU directly? I ask because the motherboard can reduce the voltage of the motherboard fan headers, but the H50 pump needs to be supplied with a constant 12V to work properly. If this is the case, you can remedy it by either turning off the option the BIOS for motherboard fan control - or directly connecting the pump to the PSU using a cable like this.

The confusement is over why the cpu multi is still throttling when ALL power saving features are switched off. I'm faced with the same dilemma. One can't switch off power saving if they so wish.

The Cooler is plugged into the MB. Ill have a look at changing that now. I see your point about the speed. Why do i need 4ghz all the time??? Thank you for your help with this..

So you tried disabling EIST? (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology)
