When I tried to install Kubuntu on my desktop, the CD turned out to be defective - but it already installed GRUB; I was thinking of creating a dualboot with Vista. I booted up the machine, it displays 'GRUB' after I had overwritten the mbr. Have you got some ideas to allow me to get rid of GRUB, and let me boot normally.

Do you have a vista retail disk? Start it up off the disk and select the 'Repair your computer' option. Follow the instructions and the wizard should repair the MBR for you.

I assume you just repair the Vista bootloader. You can either do this by putting in the Vista disk, and typing

"bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot"

in the recovery console, or by entering Vista, downloading EasyBCD and using the repair bootloader tool on that.

Kubuntu is, oddly enough, on the kubuntu website ;)

Sorry if i was being vague, I can not boot into any os. Vista has already been installed, and I am using a ubuntu live cd to type this. the /fixboot command strangely does not work.
