Hello, hope this is the best place to post, but does anyone have any problems using monitors with KVM switches?
Im currently WFH, and my setup is a dell 4919dw, with my desktop plugged in via hdmi and a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. The keyboard (LG K350) dongle plugs into the monitor, and the mouse (LG G502 lighspeed) is wirelss, but the mouse pad (which charges it) is a wired connection, and also plugs into the monitor.
So far so blah, everything works on the desktop perfectly, no drops outs or anything.
Problem arises when i plug my work laptop into the monitor. I use a usb c 3.1 cable, this charges and does data transfer. Picture comes up perfectly on the monitor, so at least a signal going one way is fine! But now i find the keyboard and mouse dont work right. I can still get signals, ie type andmove ouse, but the mouse is intermittent keeps freezing. Periodically the keyboard will go weird, and keys (which are not sticking on the keyboard) will type as if they are. Eg if i type hello i might get "hhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" and then nothing else appears.
As ive been typing this, ive turned off the mouse and gone back to a wired one, which partly solves the mouse problem. Kind of defeats the object of having a kvm and one set of mouse/keyboard for 2 inputs thought. Any suggestions?
The only other thing i can add is that periodically, and coinciding with some times of these going wrong (but not on every instance) the laptop makes various binging and bleeping noises. Nothing comes up on screen indicating a problem, its not any sort of email incoming indicator, nor any other program doing anything.
I asked our IT guy, and he suggested seeing if buying a hub would work (it didnt), and that the binging sounds were the laptop looking for an input signal.
Just to add, usually i put the replacement wired mouse direct into the laptop, which really fixes the mouse problem, today ive tried plugging it into the new hub i bought, which in turn is plugged into the monitor still. This still gives me the same mouse problems. Just moved it to being plugged direct into laptop and works a treat, no problems.
Help!
