KVM Switch Help

HI

Am looking to get 2 KVM switches ( USB ) Audio is not a problem but i would like to have 1 that is keyboard controlled as 1 of the PC's (DVR) will be in the roof space and i want to be able to access it via a KVM swtich.

Do you guys know of any that can be controlled via the keyboard, For example years ago i used to have one that you pressed scroll lock twice and number 1 for 1 pc and number 2 for pc too.

2 port is fine.

VGA or DVI?

Wouldn't a remote desktop connection of some sort be easier?

vga and remote desktop wont work on this DVR ( well will but its not windows or linux based) well is linux but not a distro.

If it's VGA how long will the cables need to be (and at what resolution).

res anything under 1600 x 1200 is fine and cables 2m+ if its 2m or less i could always use extension cables.

I use a Dlink 4 port one that works fine with standard USB mice/keyboads. anything fancy like my steelseries mouse it goes mental. i've had to stop using it and boxed it up.
