Hello, I've got the following KVM switch (from a competitor):

As you can see, it's just a 4 port USB switch; I use it to switch between my PC and my work laptop.

  • On my work laptop, this thing works perfectly.
  • On my PC, if I don't interact with my computer for a few minutes, my KB and mouse start losing power; the only way to fix this issue is to switch to my laptop and back to my PC (with that button on top).
It's very strange because it's a very new PC I have. There's a micro-USB on the switch for external power but it doesn't seem necessary to me because it works just fine on my work laptop.

Is there some kind of random Windows 10 setting which is putting this USB device to sleep or something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

(Sorry if I've posted this query in the wrong section).

I'm going to update this post because I think I may have found the solution to this issue.

In the end I had to update my motherboard's BIOS (MSI B450 ITX).

Strange solution to a very strange problem.

May be related to USB selective suspend but I thought Windows 10 sorted those issues.

I had that kind of problem with a lot of those kind of devices though - eventually settled on an Aten US224 as it was the only one that seemed completely free of it.

Same, If I didn't see your post I would never have thought about checking. Mine was still stock. Many thanks for your post goodsir.

ASUS ROG Strix X470 F-Gaming was my Mobo still on stock 0225 BIOS did around 4 BIOS updates getting it to a 2019 4205 BIOS sorted the USB dropouts issue.
