Sky Valley! easily one of my favourite top 5 rock albums,never seen it mentioned on these forums before.What do you reckon? rock and roll or what!!!

They had their moments. Decidedly average for the most part though.

You're right about Sky Valley though. It is an absolute masterpiece. I was always quite found of Wretch too.

Demon Cleaner is a wicked song, and a lot of their stuff is good, but then a lot is decidedly average.

Decidedly average? They brought the stoner rock scene to the masses,but never received the recognition that was deserved,without them it would probably have stayed underground.

Only a non rock fan would consider Kyuss to be decidedly average,what do you lads listen to,Erasure?

That's not true.

Kyuss are decent, but it gets pretty dull, in my opinion. I can't sit through the whole album (sky valley), there's not enough variety to it for me. It doesn't make me want to get hold of the rest to try either, really.

Bringing something to the masses doesn't mean it's necessarily good. In fact, I'd say if the masses like it, it'll be precisely "decidedly average". Don't get me wrong, I like Kyuss, I just don't think they are absolutely amazing.

At the moment, I'm cooking dinner and fllitting between the hob and the computer (easy, really - they're only about 4' apart and on the same bench) whilst boogieing my rotund ass off to Iron Monkey - Ruined By Idiots.

I maintain that Kyuss were phenomenonally ****ing dull with the odd standout track.

Yeah you're right,I used the wrong terminology.What I mean is, they raised awareness of the stoner style of rock music,Kyuss and stoner rock by their very nature would never appeal to the masses.

After Kyuss split the former members went on to create Fu Manchu and Queens Of The Stone Age.

They're one of the most iconic hard rock bands of the 90's too.

They have some great tracks, and some not so. Sky Valley is good, but I prefer Blues for the Red Sun overall. Green Machine probably being my favourite song.

sometimes i like the fact that that they play through bass amps...sometimes it really gets on my nerves. it must be called stoner rock because it's so much better when you're stoned...that sludgy droney noise actually culminates into some sort of definable music...otherwise, i'll echo penski's decidedly average.

I'm sorry all you 'it's really average/boring' types but I absolutely love them. QOTSA are also excellent though their later stuff isn't as good. Mondo Generator are quite good too.

As for stoner, Dozer are pretty good and Colour Haze too.....I really wish I'd have been able to see Kyuss live tho

My uncle took me to see them at the Borderline (I think) in '94....

...My memory is that they were decidedly average.

I can cook better than any woman I know.

If the choice between cooking myself and eating something my girlfriend cooks, I'm straight at the hob.

Besides, I find it relaxing.

Kyuss had their moments as already mentioned. The band epitomised stoner rock and that makes them alright in my books.

I even have a Kyuss shirt (kudos!) with a yellow butterfly emblazened on it! I still sport it every now and again when reminescing my first year at uni.
