L200 or Navara?

Now I know the first thing your itching to type is HiLux /thread however for what I want to spend (£9k) the HiLux's of that money are ropey double the mileage, imported, cat d/c where as the L200's and Navaras seem to be a much better choice at this price / cost.

To answer some of the derailing questions first up

Must be an auto because I'm sick of driving in London with a manual and it plays havoc by Thursday / Friday with my leg I smashed to pieces in a bike accident.

Must be a 'van' because of the taxable benefits when owned by my company.

Must be a crew cab as I have a family.

Not fussed about the load liner or truckman tops

Only driven a Navara and it was pretty decent to be fair. Interior plastics are nasty as hell though but given what they are designed for they are supposed to be hard wearing.

Navara hands down, the L200 has a brutal ride by comparison. Neither auto will be particularly spectacular though!

I am not sure on the L200 but the Navara can be very skittery from the back on wet roads. Great fun if you are expecting it but brown pant moment when you are not, with 4 wheel drive on its fine or a bit of weight in the back.

They are great at towing, can cruise at 80-90mph (not towing!) You can float over pot holes or dirt tracks. As peter mentioned the interior plastic is cheap but overall OK, the worse bits are the shiney pieces round the controls in the door.

My dad has had 1 from new, and its now 6 yr old and done around 70k miles, off road and on road. Its now on its 2nd clutch but apart from that its been pretty reliable with only small niggles or faults. It does get abused and tows a 2-4 tonne trailer several times a month.

He did want a Hilux but there was a big waiting list and he needed a pickup asap. Looked at the L200 but the tow weight was too low. Also he felt the Nissan would be more reliable (moving from a Discovery)

Turning circle on the L200 was shocking if i remember correctly...one of those two anyway has a got it really bad..

I know with the Navaras if it's been used for towing or carrying heavy loads the rear leaf springs can warp and sag so a lot of people replace them with up rated ones for around £3-400 if i remember correctly.
