hey guys was just wondering if anyone knows anything about valve making another l4d or if its been confirmed? i know that the orignal game came out in 2008 and then l4d 2 in 2009, if they kept following that release time then we should have seen something by q4 2010. iv been searching all over the internet to see if anything has been confirmed but just finding forums with people saying what they would like to see in the new game if it is ever made.

so i guess its not expected any time soon then lol its just that l4d2 is getting quite mouldy now even with the cold stream beta.
whats the estimated release date for episode 3?

Well, DotA 2 is apparently releasing in the second half of this year, with Portal 2 obviously taking up the current half. So, besides that, another new Valve game, whether it's L4D3, Ep3/HL3, or something else, probably won't come until 2012.

Not sure what they could do to it. They got some flak for L4d2 being too similar to L4d.

they were pretty quick bringing L4D2 out to cash in on L4D so im surprised we haven't heard anything about a L4D3 yet

hopefully they will announce something at E3 but i would prefer HL3 or EP3 or whatever they plan for the next half life game

A new engine or L4D would die - it would just be L4D2 with some new maps.

But surely it would just be L4D2 with shinier graphics if it got a new engine? There's not really much substance a game like that can have to be honest. I think barring new maps and everything which that could bring (weapons, new zombies, etc), the Left 4 Dead franchise has had it (in regards to a new game). Even game modes and characters can just be added through new content. It shouldn't take a whole new game to expand something like L4D*.

*It was probably this that got everyone's knickers in a twist when L4D2 was announced.

The only thing I would like to see in L4D3 is a new engine, fancier graphics, new special infected, more weapons and some new game modes.

However a lot of this can be achieved by a DLC or update.

I do like the Source engine it feels extremely polished but the graphics feel dated.

I think some people are a little too quick to criticise, especially where it's not warranted. I mean, it's not as if L4D was a hugely flawed game or anything. Valve had no reason to reinvent the wheel in this case. L4D2 was different enough, with enough new features to be considered a proper sequel.

L4D .. all they'l do is make some more campaigns and survival maps etc, they wont release a brand new game for a good while

I don't believe they'll be making a new L4D game for quite a while, they have DOTA 2 theoretically coming out this summer, then the Half Life that may or may not exist to come out.

I personally don't care that much about engine updates, Portal 2 looks reasonably good, and can be played on slow computers.
