First off, i know theres a massive L4D thread already open but i fear this will get lost very very quickly in the general banter that flys around it!

I hadn't played for a few weeks until the other day and i understand ther has been an update to the game sine i last played. My problem is that i now get loads of random CTD's from in the game. Think i was trying to play a game with some clanmates and Ludix when i first got the CTD's so coult event try to get one over on him!

I've updated my driver to the latest WHQL ones with no joy. I've uninstalled from steam and reinstalled and again i get no joy.

A few mates are also having the problem but we cant find any info or suggestions for a fix. Any ideas??

hmm, i have onboard mobo audio so i've never updated those drivers. Worth a try!
As is the defrag and verification sugested also!

Yeah it would, but its know for causing trouble in cases.

You could also try and change the game cache in the options to a different level or even the amount of virtual memory in windows as again they can cause crashes. I'd go for the soundcard drivers first though, they were causing my problems in L4D a few weeks back.

Forgive my ignorance! Is that in the game settings?
Also, this would stop my C2D chip from using both cores no??

My setup is near identical to yours and l4d would freeze for a few seconds while playing, then it would continue like nothing was wrong.

All was fixed by switcing off multicore, its in options/video/advance settings

l4d ran as fast if not faster afterwards.

no problems with the cache and defragged also.
Disabled multicore and got a crash :(

Now to find some mobo drivers for audio!
