When in game it’s using 100% of my CPU and after asking a couple of people and looking around seems I’m not the only one, any one here having this problem as I can’t seem to find an answer to why it’s doing this.
Then if running at 100% is right this is the most CPU intensive game to date and after playing it I really don’t see how. It makes Tf2, Crisis and Farcry 2 look like little games that are easy to run.
Well nice to see there are some people here that are willing to disuse this topic, I should learn to just ignore the I must laugh at you and prove you wrong people that plague so many forums.
I have solved the issue and yes it is was an issue, it was kind of my fault for not checking video settings the first timed I played I just used the “recommended settings” which turn out to be not recommended for duel core uses. There is a new setting for Valve games in their called “Multicore Rendering” which is enabled by default and if it’s left on it will not only use 100% of both cores but stress your system heavily.
I do however feel if Valve have an option like this and has a recommended setting this should not be on if you’re not running a quad core. However with it now disabled the game and system run’s real nice and smooth and it’s using both cores and peaks at around 70% load.
Some of you never read or learn or investigate do you. Its running on both cores if you read you would know that. And some of you don’t know what multi means do you it’s not the same dual jezzzz.
And if you think that running a game at 100% stressing out a PC when even ventrilo struggles to work is a normal or good thing then well the nOOb is strong in you. My PC runs fine at 3.5 after 18 hours of Orthos so I guess you guessed wrong.
I know 5 people who last night changed the setting and now have a great running game and for the dual core people it’s running on both cores so....
Or perhaps my G15 keyboard is lying to me saying it’s running on both cores, whatever, pick out what you believe is wrong do zero investigation to back your claims and so on it’s all good for me.
For the price well competitor price it’s a real fun game either playing online with anybody, friends or clans so I would recommend it I don’t think it will last as long as TF2 but still really worth a go.
Now back to the core thing. I have a G15 keyboard and have my CPU and Ram displayed on it at all times and out of all the games I’ve played on this CPU none have stressed it out in any way or not even gone near 100%. Now as far as I know L4D is the first Valve game to support multi core, unlike TF2 which just knocks the **** out of 1 core. When I first played L4D online I noticed both cores were permanently on 100% even at the start of the game standing on the roof which I thought was strange but played on like that and the game ran ok locked at 60fps. But Ventrilo was lagging and when I alt tab everything took a long time to recover which has never happened.
The next night and speaking to clan members we all played with the settings to see what was going on, I dropped all the video settings to the lowest setting and the lowest res and still on the roof it was using 100% on both cores and there’s just no way that’s right in an old game engine with little going on. Then we switched of multi core rendering and then on the roof with little going on it’s using both cores evenly at about 40% and has only gone up to 70% during maxed out horror.
Now 5 of us tried this 2 of us have dual cores and it works for us, the quad cores uses never had a problem with this setting and keep it on. I do understand that when it comes down to it in places like this and topics like this everyone thinks they are right, but in this case what is now right is I along with some clan members can play L4D without all the massive energy it was using and it runs even better now because the CPUs are doing a normal job, before they were at warp factor 9.
