L4D/Steam/CSS Black screen prob, Help needed.

Went to play Left4Dead today for the first time in ages & when I start the game I hear it running but have a Black screen
I have Exactly the same issue with CS Source & am pretty sure it is related to a rez conflict.
Can somebody paste the start line they use for Left4Dead so I can jump start it or give me the location in the prog files so i can change it manually.

I have obviously tried different drivers/driver sweep/malware etc etc etc etc etc
Help me please

As rge man says.

Its quite a common issue where it is trying to run the wrong resolution.

If you go onto the steam forums you will find it talked about in more detail.
