just got l4d2 earlier from steam
i run the game, right after the intro movie i get the loading screen, then it stays on that screen for about 10 seconds then it just crashes...
using windows 7.
playing many other steam-games but only having a problem with l4d2 atm...
thanks

1) Update nvidia drivers (if using nvidia card) to latest BETAS. Likewise with Ati update to latest drivers.

2) Go to steam > steamapps and delete :

left 4 dead 2 client
left 4 dead 2 common

Then reload steam and click install. Itll take a few moment to download those new files again, but may fix the problem.

I have a similar problem... but my WHOLE system locks up requiring a hard reboot. Only happens with LFD2.

My friend has the same issue. It's usually random, although it will always happen without fail on the very first level when the lift doors open.

All I did was change the permissions on the L4D2 folder to give full access to everyone (not just the folder but all files in it as well). fixed it for me after a reboot

Think the following only applies to crashes in game but u could try :

in the launch propeties add the following:

-lv

Check the integrity of the game cache to make sure you have no corrupt files.

I am having this problem at the moment. Where do i find the launch file?

Right click on game icon and click properties on the first tab named general choose 'set launch options'

TC.

In the bugs list on the steam forums it states the following:

Game crashes after intro

For some players the game just crashes after the intro has stopped playing.
If they use a workaround to skip the intro, it crashes instantly.

Possible fix :
Link
Simply open up a new text document, paste the correct entries for your operating system and save it as "l4d2reg.reg" for example, then just run the .reg file. Observe that this is at your own risk. It's a reg fix floating around the web and while it have fixed the problem for some without creating any other problems I still recommend doing a backup of your registry before trying this. I dont really understand what I am doing here! Could anyone more technically minded than me have a look at this and advise!

This morning's Kaspersky update FP'ed a trojan inside one of L4Ds files, if you're running kaspersky that could be causing issues.

Mine used to with my cpu overclocked to 3.5GHz, strangely at 4GHz no crashes :O
