hi all,

up until recently i was on virgin cable, and never had a single problem with l4d2 connecting to servers.

i've recently moved back into the parents house, who have bt broadband, and everytime i try and join a game, it starts loading but never connects, well maybe once in every 5-6 attempts.

i've tried the masterservers.vdf fix, changing caferate in registry, but nothing has worked.

anyone got any ideas?

Can't help but i have similar problems on BE (having tried 2 different routers)

When i join a server i can be in the server for about 30 seconds before i time out, i can then sit there and wait until my connection has completely timed and been kicked from the server, then rejoin and play fine.

I also can't load web pages for about 2-3 minutes after closing left4dead2

that scuppers my potential plan of ditching bt and getting BE here :p

there must be something i haven't found yet, but google turns up some rather meaningless results :(

Most likely a router issue. I've no idea /re BT but on Be your best bet is to switch to a cheap sky-branded DG834GT from 'an auction site' and flash it with the DGTeam firmware.

There's also a setting you can change on the BeBox which helps, but personally I regard the routers Be provide you with as pretty fudging awful, so it's not worth bothering trying to work round the issues.

thanks for that.

currently got my own little network sat connected to a linksys wrt610n, that links on to the homehub (year old).

what's odd is back in the summer after i finished uni i had zero issues connected in the same manor, it's only since i've come back here it's gone strange...

i'm going to look into flashing the router to see if that'll help, but i'm not holding my breath. if it's still carp after that i'll look into getting a new router for it.

I got this recently too, but I didn't change ISP's, it just suddenly stopped letting me connect to servers or even lobbies, no idea why.

On virgin media.

a chap in the internet section helped me out wth this, i was getting the 30 second time outs on both bt and now be, he gave me some settings to change in my routers .ini file and ive never had a problem since, will try and find the link for you.

was something to do with refreshing from 500 and i changed it to 3 and its worked ever since.

thanks for the replies.

i've managed to get it working pretty well using port forwarding (never realised this would actually make a scrap of difference.... but hey-ho), it's only not connected about 2 or 3 times on several servers today.

do you think if i add the linksys router to the homehubs DMZ that things will improve?

right, got a new router, and i no longer get disconnects, but for some bizarre reason, i can't view server info when right-clicking a friend. i just get 'server not responding' on every server i try and view who's playing on.

the router i have now is a netgear dgn1000 if that helps.

i've opened ports for steam and l4d2 as well.

I use BT (get it free) and have no problems with L4D2 at all and I play quite a bit at all times of the day.

throw the homehub in the bin and use something else :)

you'll get better speed, reliability and be able to play L4D
