Got my new L702x from the outlet yesterday and in the main pretty happy with it. One thing I have noticed though is it seems to be Turbo Boosting randomly when I'm not doing anything / very little. The Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor it comes with will show that the processor is doing very little, then suddenly it jumps up to Turbo Boosting to get 3.0GHz or something for no apparent reason. I haven't noticed any performance issues or anything when it happens, it just seems a little strange.

I've had a quick look on the internet and couldn't find anything, so any suggestions why / how to stop it would be much appreciated?

It's just what happens, even when your not doing much back ground services, etc take CPU time :-)

The cause is actually the Turbo Boost Monitor program.:confused:

It's a problem I noticed as well and it is very bad for our laptops. When the CPU spiking problem occurs the memory modules and hard drive temperatures increase significantly on my laptop and it's all for nothing!

For example my L702x has four memory modules and they have built-in temperature sensors and they idle at ~35c but the temperature increases to 65c+ when the Turbo Boost Monitor is running and the hard drives increase to 55c+ whereas at idle they are ~32c. The heat is constant once it peaks and my laptop cooler (it blows air into the vents on the bottom of the laptop) is unable to reduce the temperature except when I close the monitor program.
