Hi All

Just built a new rig - IP35 Pro, Q6600, 8800GTS - which is running like a dream, playing Bioshock maxxed etc. Now, seeing the prices of these widescreen monitors, I'm starting to get tempted. The thing is, I really like my L90D+... Anyone gone from one of these to a wide care to make any observations? Is widescreen gaming really that much better or is it just better because the screen is bigger?

If I did do it, I'm also not sure whether to go 22" or 24". Guessing to play Bioshock maxxed at native on a 24" I'd probably have to get a 8800GTX?

Cheers

I had a L90+ for a couple of years, a great screen. Moved to a 226BW (S variant) and
would comment:

- Far brighter (if you need it, whites seem whiter because of this)
- Better contrast, especially with dark greys
- Same top/bottom light bleed, no problem for me
- Colour was different, subjectively better
- Gaming are much more immersive, the experience is far closer to a console and big tv

And what's all this talk about different panels I keep hearing about?
Various manufactures use differnent panel technology for their screens. They work in different ways and have various benefits. E.g. PVA panels, found on Dells and some others have much better viewing angles than TN-film. But TN are cheaper to produce.

Don't know what a L90D+ is but I preusme it's a 17" or 19" 1280x1024
The main difference in a bigger monitor is resolution. Games will be sharper and more detailed as well as just being bigger.

Sure a GTX would help Bioshock but the extra res and size of screen would more than make up for dropping a couple of graphics settings.
I haven't regretted buying my 24" for a second

Sorry should have been more specific. I know all about the different panel types - I was referring to the talk that is surrounding the 22" Samsung screens.
