LA Noire or Mafia 2 ?

They aren't really all that similar. I'd say LA Noire, but I never really got into either. I preferred LA Noire though from what I played of both.

They both very different games.

L.A. Noire is fairly repetitive and gets boring after a while, but still a good and interesting game.

Mafia II is a great game, it's GTA but set in the 1940s, definitely the better of the two.

Both are free to roam, but there isn't much to do in L.A. Noire.

I'd say L.A. Noire is the better of the two with the caveat you don't play all the way through it too quickly as it'll quickly become very repetitive. I still haven't finished it after buying it in the Christmas sale but drop back in to solve a case now and then :)

Mafia 2 was excellent, if you haven't played the 1st Mafia then I'd recommend that too, looks slightly dated now but still a really good game/story. Haven't played LA Noire yet, it's in my Steam library though.

I'd have to say Mafia II by far. Whilst both have their qualities, LA Noire got a bit repetitive and started going downhill quite early on in the game, whereas Mafia II got better and better as it went on.

I have both, Mafia 2 is decent but not as good as Mafia 1 was.

La Noire can be a little dry in terms of presentation and setting but that doesn't change the fact that the facial animation is one of the few massive leaps that graphics have taken in recent years.

The effect is utterly astounding and I can see a near future where all games use similar technology as it adds so much to the experience.

So whilst they're very similar, La Noire achieves a lot more overall.

Mafia2 is very short, but more typical gameplay with lots of shooting. LA is longer and also very different in pacing/style- far less shooting, more evidence collecting and questioning suspects. With a few shootouts and chases (both on foot and in car) thrown in. LA is a much fresher experience imo.

I'd go for LA Noire, I can see why some found it repetitive but I loved the atmosphere and attention to detail. Kind of a modern take of the old fashioned adventure game and really quite unique.
Having said that I did enjoy Mafia 2 as well and I don't think you can go far wrong with either game.

Mafia 2 with 2 DLCs (Joe's Adventures and Jimmy's Vendetta).

What I REALLY hated about the DLCs is that they 've introduced those points numbers popping up on top of each guy that you kill - completely ruining immersion. Who cares about those numbers and why do they have to be in the middle of the screen?!:D
