Omg,i saw a learner today on a 125 and his chain was absolutely shocking:eek:

it was a mile too slack and rusty as hell as in almost solid,it was that bad I almost felt like stopping him and warning him about it,due to it being 5 o clock rush hour I couldn't very well

why do folks ignore important, potential life threatening components? its beyond me

buy a cheap can of oil and keep it lubed and tightened up:mad:

How often would you recommend to lube the chain? I do it every weekend after i've given my lil' cbf a clean and a spray with FS365. That's more than often enough, right?

^
I try to lube mine every weekend too, but I commute on it everyday and always lube after cleaning ;)

I haven't watched it but I imagine it covers it:

I recently had to have my front sproket changed on my ybr, as it was well worn, i just thought it was a loose chain =( i thought i lubed enough, once a fortnight (my mileage is'nt high at all), iv now gone to once a week at weekends. As eddie said, can't lube enough it seems lol.

That would depend on what lube you're using :)

I like the Wurth Dry Chain Lube personally. Doesn't flick off the chain and cause a mess everywhere. Needs re-applying fairly often though. I tend to apply it every 200-400 miles, depending on what weather I've been through. And obviously that's after a ride, when the chain is still warm.

Every month or two I'll give it a good clean with a toothbrush and paraffin. Still looks like new 2 years on, and no stretch yet :D

Every 450-500 miles like it says in my handbook, some of you guys doing every weekend how many miles are you doing:eek:

I do around 150-180 a week and considering the weather hasn't been too kind, thought it would be a good idea to do it this regular :p

If you ride regularly, lube it once a week and every time it rains heavily. Try and lube when the chain and sprockets are hot.

I now have a Scott Oiler due to the amount of miles I do.

Yes a Scottoiler is the way to go. I shall be buying one ASAP for my new bike but in the meantime I shall be lubing it weekly.

I was beyond anal about keeping my chains spotless... Hated my self for it haha.

Would spend HOURS getting them pristine.

First thing I always did with a new bike after the usual oil, filters and plug service was new sprockets and a nice D.I.D gold chain. Spend about a hour cleaning all the sticky muck off of it, then lubing it up with a spot oiler in all the joints and letting it soak in over a few hours, put it on the bike, another clean then a lube then a test ride.

Don't know why??? Just like my chain lasting long and looking good. Worst part was bloody Renthal carriers for a Ducati costs a bomb. So you would add like 300 quid on the buy price just because of the carrier, sprockets and chain lol.

I see a B-King at the H cafe and his chain was proper nasty. If the chain is that bad, what else has been left unattended.. I suspect the answer would be everything.

Car owner attitude, it gets fixed at the MOT, if it's not seen at the MOT, nothing is wrong, if it goes wrong between the MOT, blame the MOT station and pay a garage silly money to fix.

Or, as most of us know, buy a haynes manual, sit down for a hour a weekend and maintain your bike. Lasts twice as long and saves you many pennies.

Exactly this, I use the same lube, fantastic BUT you do need to reapply, however no crap gets on the chain... mine's mint... but I do tend to clean the chain down every 400-500 miles, then re-apply...
