The only recent rts games i can remember are star craft 2 and supreme commander 1 and 2.

Not really heard of others unless im forgetting.

What happened to em all, they used to be really good in the 90s but trying to play or look forward to a recent one that isnt hyped to hell like sc2 is a rarity.

Yeah there was Company of Heroes 2 recently but I only played the demo, seemed kind of meh. Good job the old RTS games still hold their own. I play Dawn of War 2, Total Annihilation, Age of Empires 2 and Company of Heroes 1 if I fancy a bit of RTS action

Oh there was the new Rome: Total War as well.. which wasn't very highly rated

Planetary Annihilation is out soon.

I think as gaming has become more mainstream, developers are catering towards the lowest common denominators now (read: mouth breathers) who want instant gratification and the ability to occasionally win with luck. RTS games don't fit this description and it's why the genre has warped into herp-a-derp crap like dota.

All I do is play either Age of Empires 3 or SupCom: Forged Alliance nowadays but even those are getting a bit stale. I do miss a good RTS to while away the hours whilst watching TV shows though.

I quite liked dark reign 2 i was never great at it but i liked it and thought a new one of those would be great to play with todays gfx tech tho keep the same gameplay.

+1 for Planetary annihilation for me.

The game technically is still in Beta as there adding new features and content buts its fun to play in its current state.

The only draw back i have with it at the moment is optimization but i can get let that slide as there no where near done (It has greatly improved over the last few months).

Shogun was pretty decent. I got a good many hours out of that. I still think supcom is the best for sheer scale, and there isn't much these days that competes.

I still play Napoleon Total War with the Darth Mod. great fun. Play a little StarCraft 2 but I'm absolutely terrible at online play lol. I love RTS games but I'm such a turtle online.

The latest patch is supposed to do wonders for Rome II, but I can't back that up personally.

Apart from Planetary Annihilation, there are a couple of future games to keep an eye out for - Clockwork Empires and Grey Goo (which is being made by former Westwood peeps).
