Yes, I know theres a massive thread about how search is disabled. I just wanted to know what you used it for?

Personally, I only really used it to search for my user name in advanced search, this would show me who has replied to my threads making it it easier to post back.

Now though I have no idea who has posted comments back in threads I created or threads I posted in, as threads are lost on here within a few hours and go to about page 3

Maybe a simple username search or button would be less on the database load, like a click to see your most recent posts.

Just an Idea

Can't you just subscribe to your threads in the user cp?

If you click thread tools at the top of the thread ^ you can subscibe to it, which is like a bookmark, you can then look at these threads in the user cp (top left of the forum) ;)

I'd also suggest turning off email notifications unless you want hundreds of replies cluttering up your inbox. :)

I used search whenever I thought I'd seen a topic before and wanted to check.

Mine is set up to subscribe automaticaly to any thread I post in. You can see what threads are subscribed to by a little box with a tick in it.

wow ive seen a little square with a tick box in at the side of this thread on the list. Does this stay at the top of the list of threads until i unsubscribe?

You learn something new everyday!

Its doesnt stay at top of the list (I presume your on about the forum thread list.). Its just there to remind you that the thread is subscribed. It still moves up or down like normal threads. Or are you on about the list of threads in your CP?

nah, just the normal list of threads. seems to still be at the top, maybe because im not refreshing the list after coming back

I found out a couple of weeks ago that I was subscribed to about 300 threads.. I'd turned it on by default. Fortunatly the board didn't send email to my address, or there would have been a lot of emails

or setup your emails so they get bounced back to ocuk. crash heaven if a few thousand members did this!

Bah, i dont subscribe and i enforce a fire and forget posting approach. :p

I mainly use the search to get product information. Searching for a particular model number brings up everything about it pretty much, which is great when you are buying a lot of components. Luckily for OcUK i put my order in 1 week before search went, so all of my research was done, and i had a week of troubleshooting the new PC.

in all my years of forum using.. ive never used the forum subscription thingy!

ive ended up using my web browser history to hunt down threads ive posted to so i can reply
