I seem to remember my old 8600GT had the option to display some of the lower resolutions at higher than 60hz, like 70,75hz and my 5850 never has been able to select other than 50,59,60
I also tried plugging my comp into the projector which supports 85hz and again it was either 50hz or 60hz

any ideas?

when i build my HTPC it will plug into my projector and i would like to get 85hz from the display, if its an ATi thing then I will in this case get an nvidia card

thanks

You need to install the drivers for whatever display you're using.

That way any display modes supported by the display should be available.

Alternatively try this:

Right click on the desktop, select screen resolution, click on advanced settings, click on the monitor tab, untick the box for "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display".

You should now be able to select different resolutions and refresh rates. Be careful with this because if you select a mode the screen can't display it will go blank. If that happens then wait 30 seconds and hopefully the settings will revert back to the working settings.

Installing the drivers for your display is the best option.
