A status thing I think, it's to show that you've been on holiday, spain, italy etc, to show you've got money and are doing well...probably similar to tattoos

That's why the Tory class hate the so-called working class or chav class, or at least they used too I don't know if things are still quite as bad. But to them, even though they couldn't admit it, it's like looking in the mirror, the main difference is they have money. Tories are chavs with money.
