"Lads" and "banter"

Round here, using the word 'lads' to refer to your male friends became popular in about the mid 90's. It was around the same time that Loaded magazine started using the term a lot and was more for referring to short-haired rebelling collar-up young men, out drinking lager and generally being rowdy. Think of lads in Essex in their XR3i, blue jeans and white Reebok Classics and you've just pictured the first generation 'lads'. Then the phrase 'lad mags' was coined to describe sorts of magazines like Loaded, FHM, etc.

Not heard of banter being used other than for larking around, comedy banter between people etc, but that phrase has been used for years surely?

It was overly used at uni, people thought they had it and they didnt. Normally the upper class lads thought they had the best "banter"

There is a spoof of it on youtube somewhere, sums it all up can't remember what it was called though.

Lets just say in the 4months ive been in the army there has been better "banter" than the 4years i lived with or around students

Bare is a ridiculously popular term, around London its used a lot.
I generally don't use it but I have known to say some slang when I am with my mates from uni. :(

Andy Gray and Keys are the perfect example of "a bit of lads banter" as described by the definition at the start of this thread.

Seems like the things some comedians get paid for on channel 4 gets you the sack with SKY.

So I was bunning the peng with my mans, when bare other mans tried to make it a lengting! I was like allow bare beef, it's long... But they were all sending direct, so we went in greazy and left mans shook!
