As the title says im having issues when my friend streams of his laptop and im playing Xbox 360. For example i get one bar on Black Ops when he is streaming ?i Have Virgin Media 20MB and Netgear WNDR3700, i have QOS settings on and the Xbox is set to the highest Priority settings and the laptop is set as low. They are both running wireless, any help guys would be appreciated.
Thanks sy
QOS can only really work on outbound traffic, it's very limited to what it can do on the incoming side, so game data from Xbox Live and say a video from iPlayer will be sent down the 'pipe' to your house no matter what, your router can do it's best to prioritise this on your internal network, but it has little say in what order it's actually sent to you (For streamed data)..
And interleaving video with game data will end up impacting the latency of the game data, especially if it's higher bandwidth video..
Your connection speed isn't that important, although if you where saturating it, your latency will go off the chart, even if you are well within your bandwidth limit, latency will increase the more data that gets streamed down it..
And I agree about the wireless, it's always worth trying wired first, you can get a lot of latency and stop/start bursting of data when simultaneous users are connected.
I always ensure that people are just streaming the odd music track etc when gaming online, as soon as people fire up iPlayer/Youtube and start watching stuff, it always impacts the game..
