Laggy gaming what should I check

I'm running NTL 1MB and playing online, COD4 atm, sometimes I get a real laggy game. If it happens when pings are bad, but it also happens when pings are good 30~40 and general browsing is ok. A Broadband speed check shows I'm getting about a 1mb down and 100kbs up. If I ping the server directly its still gives good ping and no packets lost. So whats going on?

The machine itself is running well, IMO especially since I uninstalled Nero 8 and Ghost 12 which I now realise had slowed it down for some reason. I'm baffled, tbh.

Can just be the servers not up to the job.

I get 22ms ping on most BF2 servers but some are still as laggy as hell.

I doubt it is your connection tbh

COD 4 is laggy full stop

nobody manages to get less than about 40ms ping

try one of the source games (HL2 ,CS:S or whatever) and see if thats any different.

Really annoying. Ruins the games tbh.

I get a ping of about 50. My line is a bit noisy so I think that's the problem. I have never found it to effect my gaming though on either the PC or 360, I can still kick ass, or suck for that matter.
