I've had my liquid cooling set up for a couple of years now, and all of a sudden my pump just stopped working... i found this out when my PC shut down unexpectidly and i burnt my hand on my CPU waterblock... its lucky my pipes didn't burst...

Has anyone had a similar issue... the pump will work if you give it a good squeeze, and every now and they it will start working.. well it did.. its not give up the ghost completely. I've taken the damned thing apart and cleaned it, but that doesn't seem to have solved anything.

any thoughts?

not at all.. i've already ordered a replacement, massive pain in the arse!

was just seeing if anyone has had similar problems, and if they had any idea to the course, as its ment to be good for 50,000 hours run time and all that

pumps die, just like hdd's and the like.

just replace it and move on.

You can hardly move on if it bursts all the hoses due to the heat or fries the CPU if you haven’t set the shutdown temp etc...

Like the guy said, all he wanted to know is if other people have experienced pumps failing earlier than expected.

RoEy

well of course they have, but what's the point of knowing that - it doesn't help him one bit.

tip..... use speedfan to shutdown immediately if cpu temps hit 65-70 if you're really worried about bursting tubing (pretty unlikely tbh).

A pump failing is no different to a fan on a heatsink failing. If you have setup your bios correctly then it shouldn't cause a problem when the pump stops. For the tubes to melt/'burst' or the cpu to fry would take a massive amount of heat. Most modern CPU's have thermal inhibitors that will throttle and then auto shutdown once a temp is reached.

A good idea is to attach the 3 pin speed sensor to the motherboard header that is set to alarm/shutdown should the speed fall below a certain level. I usually attach mine to the cpu/nb fanheaders - dunno if the d5 has this option tho.

I bought a D5 Vario from MM that just plain didn't work, but there was a bit missing, and I've had two DDCs die on me, but never a D4/D5 - they're pretty bulletproof really.

I have not had a chance to install my swiftech, D5 Vario yet, its second hand from MM so I may not at all now.
