am planning on going camping by myself (dont ask:p) in june/july time to the lakes but am just wondering if people can give me some good camp sites with a close lake view :D if there is such a thing

Echoed.

I'll be going at the same time, and while our group were planning on finding a deserted field and setting up tent, we might get a bit stuffed if we're caught, so any decent campsites/the best lake to be near recommendations would be great ta.

pooley bridge right on shaw of lake ullswater been there loads of times.theres all stuff you need close by aswell.theres two campsites next to each other.so you should find what your looking for.

You been there yourself PK? That's the main oen we were looking to go for. Couple of questions, how decent are the facilities, how busy was it (we will be going peak season) and are there pubs within staggering distance?

I was there about a year ago, arriving the day before Good Friday. The facilities are pretty good and kept clean, dont think you had to pay for the showers. The small shop they run has the essentials, including gas canisters (which was handy as I ran out!). The staff there were really helpful too.

It does get busy though, so try to turn up early. They were full and turning people away when we were there on Good Friday, so I should phone to check before you set off, and have a backup plan.

I can't remember seeing any nearby pubs, but then I didnt really go looking for any. It is a bit of a way out of Ambleside, near some very small villages.

PK!

the big campistes I find are way to chavvy...epscially ones with caravans on

I always prefer the smaller forestry comission campsites...the one in Langdale has spectacular scenery being at the head of the valley surrounded by hills and cliffs..no lake but a handy pub!

good showers and lots of them with hot water all the time and good facilities for cleaning your pots and pans

It's not got the lake view you require but I can recommend Fisherground.

Again you have to get their early, but there are no caravans, a nice shower block and you can build open fires which really made it for me.

There is also a pub about 5 minutes walk from the site which does take-out 'wood burned' pizza which are very nice when you cannot be bothered cooking.

I bravely volunteered to get these, and waited the 20 mins in the pub while they cooked them. (whilst necking a few pints ;) )

It also has jet fly-bys which was nice and one night we stepped out of the tent to see a sky full of stars. Stunning.

Wild camping in the lake district is where it's at. I've lots of favourite spots for wild camping up there, specifically Sprinkling Tarn up near Esk Hause, as you're really near all the big tops and it's a really nice place to camp.

depends on the weather though :)

I spent a night at Angle Tarn and it blew like a bloody hurricane..wasnt the best nights sleep I ever had!

Same - at Angle Tarn by Patterdale it was awfully windy for me too. When I stayed at the Angle Tarn near Esk Hause (by the path down to the Old Dungeon Ghyll) the weather was perfect.
