Looking at staying at ambleside sometime this year (or early next) can anyone suggest a good family place to stay?

Stayed at Ambleside Lake house before, not cheap now though.Though no where there is. It was really nice, though we went as a couple. Walkable to Ambleside, clean and a nice breakfast.

Last time we went to the Lakes we stayed in Coniston instead of Ambleside as it's not too far away from anything you'd want to visit and is a bit quieter.

Sadly it looks like the B&B we stayed at has closed since Covid.

Nope, it’s like Cornwall, whole place has just become a cash cow.

Cornish homeless population is rising fast as they’re being completely priced out by the holiday let brigade

If you're prepared to stay just outside of the lake district, I can recommend The Lounge in Penrith

Not sure how many beds you need - we only had needed a double and a cot - but they advertise family rooms.

Nice food too!

They'res not much in penrith, but there is enough to use it as a base.

Not just those two locations either, lots of places in England that are nice are getting bought out by the rich and the locals get screwed.

what kind of place do you want? Somewhere to relax for a few days close to the lake without venturing far or just some budget accommodation to use as a base?

what age of family - if it were an outdoor activity base and you want something social many youth hostels have family rooms now

Sorry to revive an old thread but we're looking to visit Ambeside later this year so I figured I'd ask if you went in the end and where you stayed?

no we didn't, but we are going this summer, we are staying at a place called Hawkshead, you can only book it after christmas.

I know Hawshead well. Much smaller and more intimate than Ambleside but a lovely place to go. Have a great time!
