Lamborghini Gallardo Anyone!

If import laws wernt so stricked you could make a killing by importing them over here:p:(

Id be suprised if you could find one for less then 3 or 4 times the price of that over here for some reason(Reason being import laws:()

I was talking to a guy in the pub about the import laws over here and it seems crazy. Something about it's only viable to do if it's a rare or other type of car that can't be bought here already? I've seen a few classic minis so i assume they must fall into the allowed category...

Cars here do seem quite expensive, even the second hand market compared to average wages

Any car older then 15 is aloud in. But even then some cars get removed from that list as more and more of them get imported(IE SW20 MR2s IIRC)

Absolute crap laws down here to protect Holdern and ford:(

Yeah, but then there seem to be some breaks - such as insurance isn't such a cow over here... I see plenty of people with green P plates driving RX-8s and Evos

Whereabouts in Oz are you btw, Zip?

Driving a fast car in Australia must suck, you think we've got it bad with OUR governments obsession with speed? Is it true you can get banned for just 10mph over the limit?

Well for one, I've asked several people what the point is in them having these ridiculously souped up V8 Utes..

1) They are RWD and there is sod all weight on the back so you either have to fill the back with lead bricks or fishtail all over the place :D

2) The cops are super hot on speeding offences. Saying that, speed cameras are well signed up, France style.

I just get a shrug when I ask about speeding. Everyone pretty much sticks to 60kph on the "expressway" or whatever they call it, and it just feels so boring. :D You do get the odd person hammering it but it's quite obvious that the police are all over the place and it's risky business. Not sure how they stand on banning you for speeding offences...

I was looking at hiring something special while out here but figured I'd get arrested within 5 minutes by giving in to temptation - unless I was driving way outside the city. Meh :(

You can in some cases. If you get pulled by a cop then you have a higher chance of getting a ban.

I got caught 120kms in a 100km zone by a camera and got a $300, 6 month extended on to my P plates, and i had to to a hazard perseption test($50) and Driver Awareness test ($180) Just to get on to the second half of my P plates.

So for speeding i think i once added up that it cost me just over $500:(

God knows, but I'm certain I've seen a few RX-8s with P plates driving around the city! (unless I am hallucinating) - I definitely saw one in Coogee. Are they getting away with something they shouldn't? :) As for the Evo - at least I think it was an Evo - it was done up in mad livery/graphics and had a P plate on it. O_o

Nah, Those utes are actually pretty gutless:p

Australian V8s are a bit of a yawn fest compared to the germans and japs

Giving real rough estimates here but that car would have cost him about 4 pounds per mile lol !! (and that's being very generous!)
