Anyone have any experience of having a laminate floor fitted in the Manchester area, or recommend a decent retailer for laminate flooring?

My brother had his laminate flooring bought from and fitted by Carpetright. They did a good job. I popped into Carpetright, couldn't find laminate I like, but the salesman happily gave me the phone numbers of the guys who fit their flooring. You could try that.

Having mine done as I type this. Its not laminate but engineered wood that needs glueing. They fit it all though. Have to say they are doing a fantastic job. Im a extremely fussy swine and every detail of the job looks spot on. Can send you the guys number if you want

I did our four bedrooms last year. I invested in an exakt saw to do the job and together with a drill and a set of chisels, laying the flooring was a doddle. You do need to take your time around fiddly bits (pipes, door jams etc..) and check and recheck measurements, but that is the most difficult bit of actually laying the floor. The time consuming bit for me was fitting the scotias. It took me one or two attempts before I worked our how to create seamless returns, and every corner being out of square meant painstakingly filing small sections off the scotia so that the mitred joints were clean. The only thing I would do differently next time is to invest in knee pads :)
