Utterly gutted, just finished laying some qute expensive oak effect flooring in the bedroom. Slid the double sliding wardrobe back to its postion only to find it has left a lovely 12" scratch right across 2 runs. Cant re-lay as it will cost and be an uttter faff so I was wondering what methods are available to fix deepish scratches? some sort of crayon or something too fill the scratch i assume would be the way?

Laminate is normally very tough stuff. I thought I did the same with my new floor. I found out that alltough it looked like a scratch it simply rubbed off!

If it is a deep scratch - ie through the laminate surface, then you will never get it 100% due to the grain.

Even if it is a right pain, relay the damaged ones, otherwise you will always notice it.

Take a pic so we can see the extent of the damage.

If it's oak effect I assume the cut has revealed lighter base wood so just staining the cut with the correct shade might be a good idea as it'll only reveal it again if you fill it:)

Yes its through the surface, it is under a small rug anyway but its still knowing you did it. To relay means moving the wardrobe back out and i think doing that will cause more scratching so the only way would be a total dis-assemble of the sliding wardrobe then re-lay nearly all of it. Really big job tbh and i would rather not. Wil get a pic.

Last time i decorated i took a small chip/scratch out of my laminate and it stuck out like a sore thumb, read a post on screwfix site about using black or tan boot polish(lightly rub into the damaged area with a soft cloth), and it did the trick, to this day the scratch is still unnoticeable.

hope this helps

If it's laminate then the best you can do is mask the scratch with something of a similar colour. I dropped a PSU on my laminate and it made a huge dent, luckily it is under a desk so it can't be seen easily.

It's gone through the outer layer so the best bet is to buy some teak wax (IIRC you can get a pen that will do the job) or teak oil, then follow this up with a suitable lacquer; clear nail varnish will do just fine.

Floormaster (the stuff sold in B&Q) do repair kits for their laminate. It's a coloured two part epoxy resin that you can use to fill in any damage. If your lucky one of their colours might match yours.
