which is better? i was gonna put kitchen laminate flooring down in my kitchen but just seen a laminate flooring styles line and it looks pretty damned good.

are they any good and what sort of prices are you looking at?

been thinking it would cost about £120-130 to put laminate floor down plus the waterproof membrane.

laminate looks better.
also dont forget the waterproof bond for the joints in the laminate.
even though you are getting the membrane you need the bond as well, as if you spill any liquid, it can seep in through the joints, and the floor can lift.

but if the lino is good quality, it might be cheaper.

its really personal preference

Personally I would use lino as cheap laminate is nasty. I think laminate was in 'in' thing to have over the last few years, some people seem to use it in nearly every room when searching for houses before!

I've just layed laminate flooring in my lounge and first floor hallway, looks very nice. My kitchen has a sort of cream speckled lino in it, which goes well with the cabinets which are also cream but eventually I'll probablly laminate in there as well. Personal preference of course but overall I'd say Laminate.

Really not keen on laminate, proper wood yes, laminate no. If you can't stretch to something like a bamboo then IMHO cushioned vinyl.

I have some really nice laminate in my kitchen and lounge, and good quality lino ('cushion floor') in the bathroom and en-suite.

I much prefer the laminate, however it was more expensive. If the lino isn't fitted or cut correctly then it can look a bit naff on the edges.

I got cheap laminate and for me is is pretty bad. Creaks quite a bit and the snap lock laminate is still coming apart with unsightly gaps. Perhaps pricier and better fitted laminate might work better but for me it is a big regret.

If you're on a budget then I would get some cheap tiles, adhesive and grout and lay them myself. Laminate no good for the kitchen (unless there is some special water proof stuff that I don't know about) and lino is horrible!

Don't get cheap laminate. If you go for lino dont get fake wood, it's fugly, don't get fake anything for that matter, lino is making a big comback, go for trendy style.

decided on lino stuff that looks like laminate but i've beared in mind what you said as the price for dearer stuffm okus the price for glue, plus the membrane etc all adds up. it makes it quite pricey and the trouble with a kitchen is you need to do it right once or basd twice as the steam/condensation etc will lift it.

£280 top whack for the room size (from the advert for the house which includes the units) and choosing the most expensive stuff plus they fit it.

i'd spend most of that on laminate flooring and i'd have to do it myself but the £280 is a top whack figure so it'd be less.

Spend on the good stuff like the above posters said, look at pergo laminate as well really good and hard wearing, dont put anything less than 8 mm down or you will get problems, i am in the process the now reflooring my entire property with pergo wasabi oak gonna look sweet when done, good luck :)

I've just done our new bathroom with solid coffee bamboo, being a grass you can soak it :) it's not expensive either, think we paid about £20 p/m2

As said really, if you don't want to splash out for Amtico or Karndean then go for vinyl. Don't bother with cheap laminate as it is invariably crap.
