Lamptron FC5 v2 Faulty?

Bought the unit from you guys but not happy with it as seems to be faulty. The voltages jump too high and I cannot get little increments with the fans, it's either too low and stop or too high in which causes too much noise. Read up on Google the unit is likely faulty when the dials do not function in a linear pattern with voltages skipping. If I turn the dials past 12 o'clock nothing changes as already full speed, doesn't seem right to me.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I have the Lamptron FC6 (Does not display voltages) when turning a fan on i sometimes have to put the knob to half way and then turn it down to what i want this is due to the voltage required to actually start the fan.

However when I want to increase it I can in 10-20RPM increments. If you cannot do this then yes I would suggest that it is entirely possible your unit is faulty, Double check with a different fan (IE: Not a corsair one to rule out any incompatibility between fan and controller ) Similarly try disconnecting all fans, plug 1 fan into the first channel leave all others disconnected test the fan and move onto the next channel.

If after all of that you are still experiencing issues then I would certainly suggest contacting OCUK, If you are within your 14 return period you can send it back without having to go down the RMA to manufacturer route (Although I'm pretty sure OCUK deal with this anyway).

It seems like they must be a faulty batch, as I have RMA'ed 3 so far try my luck with a forth.
Same fault as the op, on all 3.

Got the exact same problem as the OP, this is running gentle typhoons off three channels and some stock corsair 900D case fans off the forth. I assume the fact I'm running a splitter on each channel shouldn't make any difference.

I've got exactly the same controller and my RPM on Corsair stock 140AF and SP120 quiet edition seems to be jumping up and down. Cannot increase in little increments either. Has around three settings - off, medium or high. That's the only reason why I'm sticking with it so far, as it *kind of* does the job..

The original H100 stock fan can be controlled pretty well and sticks to the same RPM though. I thought it may be just the incompatibility with the newer fans or is mine a bit faulty as well? Ordered it just short of a week ago so could return it for a refund I guess..

Any ideas?

I don't really rate Lamptron anymore..

I had a couple of Fc2's with a large variety of different fans and they both wouldn't power fans until the twisty knob (ooh er) was 50% or above.

You live and learn I guess. I've read everyone that these units are one of the better one around. And it kind of does the job so far, but I did expect a bit more from it to be honest :(

EDIT: is there a chance that because most of my fans are bigger 140 AFs and quiet edition lower RPM SP120 that the RPM jumps up and down because the controller tries to keep the same speed all the time and has to turn the power on and off ?

EDIT2: just tested some more and it seems that it's just the RPM display on the fans that's dodgy. The actual speed is going up when the nob is turned up. It's odd the RPM doesn't display properly. Not sure if I should bother returning it or not. I wouldn't expect the Bitfenix three way extension would be the root of the problem, would it?

Thats disappointing, every manufacturer brings out a bum product.

Always used Lamptron FC's as never had a problem with them :(

I have always used Lamptrons and they have always worked fine in the past - just wonder whether this is a dodgy batch, or whether they have changed the design for the worst?

What do I replace it with?????

the FC6 really has no issues, a few people have recently bought them and seem to be fine with them myself included. The FC5 v3 has recently come out on the market. Can you test with other fans if you have them to rule out the corsairs being the issue (Maybe they are not reporting the correct speed to the FC?)
otherwise contact Lamptron direct and see if there are any known issues?

It's the same with all my fans;

  • Stock H100i Fans
  • SP120/SP140
  • BeQuiet SilentWings 2 120mm PWM

Really frustrating to use when 'micro-turning' the dials for five minutes to get the speed I need. Was going to get the BitFenix Recon before the FC5 as seems better for getting those precise RPM numbers plus software control.
