Im doing some research into lan cafes/gaming cafes. I was wondering what sort of server spec would you expect to find in a cafe that runs 20 computers with all the major games such as, wow, css, 1.6, bf series, etc

Im guessing each game would have to run a dedicated server, so people can play across lan? do you think more than one server would be used?

thanks

I suppose two would be handy in case one went down. you dont need to run more than one dedicated server at one time so why go over the top?

Why not use Virtual Software to run multiple Game Servers on the hardware, would cut down on hardware needed, ie

wow on a vm
css on a second vm
bf on a third etc

ESX is free from VMWare and the problem with the date has been fixed.

No need to VM gameservers; they all run on fairly random high UDP ports and you'd want every drop of performance.
Two beasts you want, in case one goes down.

As said games servers are probably right up there on the list of things that shouldn't be virtualised, real time, latency sensitive app...
