hey guys, i got a pci lan card in my pc but i reinstalled windows, but it wont pick it up, it doesn't know who its made by and it cant find drivers! is they anyway i can find out what drivers it needs? as i have forgot who made it 2!

theres nout on there ;) i think its a realtek and i downloaded every single lan driver you can get and wont work:(

there will be writing on the card / chips. I don't believe there's nothing on there. If there really is, chuck it a way and buy a real card.

This is how I usually figure out what unknown hardware is (if its not obvious from looking at the tops of the chips) :

* open device manager and find the unknown device, windows should at least name it a 'PCI Ethernet adaptor' or something with a question mark next to it.

* right click it and select properties, click on the details tab and select 'Device Instance Id' from the drop down combo box.

* the PCI vendor/device ID pair will be shown in the text box underneath, in the format -
PCI\VEN_xxxx&DEV=xxxx&otherids...

* now go to http://pci-ids.ucw.cz/iii/ (hopefully you have a PC with a working network adaptor!) and first look up the vendor id. Good chance it'll be 10EC for Realtek, so lookup 10EC and then look for the 2nd (device ID) on the vendor page. There's a good change it'll be on there, and give you the full device model name, from which you can search for drivers.

PCI\VEN_1904&DEV_2031&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_01\4&2E98101C&0&10F0
is what i got.. now just looking for what it is!
thanks matja

sounds like a Realtek 8139D / Silan SC92031, it isnt actually listed on that website tho. quite a rare one :)
