Got a mate over for some serious gaming and wanted to know if any good games have gone under my radar?

we will be doing the norm atm- Dow, l4d, coh, diablo 2 maybe even titan quest!

Any thoughts?

Magicka, minecraft, terraria, Killing Floor, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Borderlands, Possibly Fable 3? I dont know how it is online/lan for pc.

Anything Command and Conquer, although you stand a better chance of getting the newer ones working.

RA2/Generals are especially good.

Classic Serious Sam is a spam kill fest if you're in to that kind of thing. Red Alert 3 has a co-op campaign. Portal 2? Splinter Cell Conviction has some fun co-op. But +1 for borderlands, lots of fun. Remember if you want more of a challenge in diablo 2 you can do /players (number) and up the difficulty / xp / loot.

Well after the first night all we did was play....civ 5! So its safe to say I am WELL up for any of these suggestions as a civ lan is, indeed, a poor lan! :D

Dont worry, when I drag my mate round for LANs we end up playing all the same games we play on the net. Broadband and hamachi have kind of ruined the joy of lans tbh. At least the gaming part.

Yeah but the drinking part will never fail to make me smile! Hamachi always good. But your right, the joy of lans is not the same as it used to be. The hours upon hours of getting computers to see each other :D

minecaft? Seriously?

Yes. I have a server set up that I just put different Adventure maps on and a group of us play through them. Without Adventure maps multiplayer can be a bit dull but having an adventure with mates in minecraft is so much fun. Watch some yogscast to see some decent maps.

Less and less games seem to have LAN support which is a shame. Do devs think that nobody goes to LANs anymore?

LANS are the way to go! I seem to havemore and more mini lans (1 or 2 people) than I do bigger lans. Always wanted to go to insomnia but my mates were never up for it

After doing a couple of 6-8 player LANs round my house I find the best games are:

UT and UT3 (dedicated server set up to allow you to drop in whenever)
L4D and L4D2
Age of Empires 3
RA2

Spread over 2-3 days it is epic fun and couple that with beer/vodka/curry/pizza it is a right laugh :)
