LAN games for 8 people

Red Alert 2? I think you could get 8 players on that!

apart from the obvious ones like UT, Quake, CS id recommend:


Dawn of War
Supreme Commander
Defcon (great fun)
FLATOUT 2 (best game i've ever played at a lan, superb fun)
 
Agree with above poster.

FlatOut2 on a LAN is great fun! Had a right laugh on it at the last lan I was at.

You can use the shareware wads for Doom, Doom 2 or if you have the originals all the better. Oh, and get the 3d model packs too if you're turned off by the original 2d sprites ;)

For really good co-op gameplay you should try out Operation Flashpoint Resistance (1.96) with the FDF mod http://www.fdfmod.org/index.html , it's really good fun with a good bunch of people and there are a massive amount of maps available from http://ofp.gamepark.cz/.

The game can be fairly demanding if you're planning on having one client act as the 'server' so if you have a spare box lying around of reasonable specification it's wise to setup a dedicated server. (You can get the latest dedicated server from http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ )

Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne + DOTA map

If you have original half-life, then Natural Selection mod (although is probably better with more players)

Savage - full version is now free, just google it, should be first hit.

Delta Force: BHD

Not that old, lowest machine plays cs:s so it isnt really bad but it cant play r6 vegas or c&c tiberium wars

one of the guys playing was ranked 4th in the uk back when avp was on gamespy, last time we were handed our asses hehe
 
I've played it with about 6 people before, it gets a little laggy with everything on the screen but I'm sure it's just graphics lag though.
 
Not sure if they can support 8 but SWAT 4 is good:

Trying to act all stealth into a bottle neck and then a misplaced CS Gas/stinger followed by random shooting usually ends in a bloodbath with no shots fired by the enemy.

Also Operation flashpoint was a great laugh, memories of laying prone and laying covering fire for two teammates, only for another mate to unexpectedly come flying through in tractor and running over two enemies before getting shot up. Don't think i've ever laughed so hard.

Does get a bit monotonous when one of your teammates insists on repeatedly satchel charging the communal jeep though :/
