Hi folks,

I've recently got a new pc and all is working fine apart from the fact that I constantly am getting disconnects on my network via ethernet, the pc runs flawlessly and ram is fine (tested for errors) so I know there are no problems there.

However I do keep getting this "LAN a cable has been unplugged" error which I didn't receive once on my old pc, the network itself is fine as my family don't suffer any drops, this causes me to sometimes lag out and computer lockup when playing games online.

Could it be LAN port on my motherboard that's faulty or the motherboard in general?

cable is tested fine, tried another cable on the off chance but same result, it's the exact same firewall/av as I previously used with no problems (windows firewall xpsp3 and avira).

used drivers that are on my motherboard disc so I would presume they are correct however I may try seeing if there is a updated driver on the Asus website.

Try using a pci network adapter if you can find a cheap one or have a psare one available and see if that helps. I had the same problem with a motherboard a while ago, but I just bought a sub £10 one and all was well. They're even cheaper now so that's always an option if it fixes your problem.

I had this problem with my Asus P5K-E Wifi and so did my friend with his Gigabyte DS4, we were both using the same NIC "Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller". I looked on windows update and noticed a driver for it, installed that and not had a prob since (about 8 months ago).

I'd comment that I've the opposite experience to fobose. I had this issue after letting the system update a network driver off of Windows Update. Rolling the driver back to the previously installed version fixed the issue.

It's probably a driver problem but I would look at the (as it's onboard) motherboard manufacturers site for an updated driver.

updated driver from Asus and was just as bad if not a little worse, tried a different port on my router and had the same thing. This time it doesn't just disconnect and connect it disconnects and I get "temporary or no network connection" I have to the reset the router and all's well again.

Router issue/network card issue?

Could be an auto negotiate problem between the switch and the NIC. Go into driver properties and set the speed manually to either 10 or 100Mb and see if that makes a difference. You might want to try both duplex settings too
