TF2 would be good, but I dunno if it does LAN :S You could try using an empty server tho

Another vote for Command and Conquer generals is cheap and easy enough to install and runs on most things, and also a simpler to play and get the hang of.

Farcry 1! This has got some awesome team gamemodes (the best -- 1 team defends -- the other one attacks several points ... their effort is times -- then the teams swap).

Works on old machines ..

no, you can make an offline account play with default weapons and play on LAN
