Since i got my macbook ive used my LAN socket to connect to a windows pc via an ethernet cable very often. It worked no with no problems.
However just today when i connect this way the windows pc does not recognize that the LAN connection is connected. I then connected the macbook via ethernet cable directly into a router and the router did not recognize it connecting.
So i thought it may be the cable, i used the same cable to connect a windows laptop to the windows pc and the connection was made straight away.

So question is...is my network socket buggered?
In network under system preferences i have a Parrellels Host-Guest Adaptor, what is this?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

In the connection settings does it show a green light for the Built-in Ethernet?

yes there is a green light for built in ethernet both when the cable is in and when it is out too.
How do i do the hardware check?

put in the Mac OS X disk which says "Apple Hardware Test" on it and when it boots up I think you have to hold "T"
