Lan port issue

My lan port is currently solid amber and I have no Internet access.

Before installing my 1070 gfx card today I removed my old nvidia drivers. But then realised I had no Internet access, I must have uninstalled the chipset driver or something. I figured install the gfx card then hopefully fix it after. After struggling for over an hour I reinstalled W7.

Still have issues, I installed the chipset drivers and audio drivers but when it comes the to lan driver, I get the message saying my realtek network connection isn't connected or in sleep mode. Have I damaged my lan on my motherboard or is there something I'm overlooking here?

I did pull the cmos battery after running out of ideas. Still on amber and thinking about buying a nic.

I5 2500k
GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3
Asus gtx 1070

I did swap over the lan cable and checked bios, but will upload a pic later in case I've missed anything. Shouldn't the lan port be green though until an ethernet cable is plugged in, then flash?

In most cases it shouldn't have any lights on until a cable is plugged in.

Assume the network card shows up under Device manger and Network connections?

OK had a little play tonight. When pc is powered off I get a solid orange light on the lan port. In Windows its no different. Lan is enabled in bios, device manager isn't showing an ethernet card so Windows won't let me install one.

I'm thinking I could try a bios update tomorrow but my nic card I ordered should be here too.

With connecting with powerline adaptors, I moved my pc to the router for a direct connection but no change.

I can't see any other option and can't think of anything else to try.

I'm just wondering if you need a BIOS update. There is possibly a clash somewhere with the 1070 and the onboard LAN?? Course you could just buy a NIC. You can get a nice second hand one from the bay for £10-15.

I thought the same that's why I tried with my old card back in, no joy.

I ordered a nic yesterday for a tenner. Will be here tomorrow.

Nic card arrived, plugged in installed software and instant Internet access.

A reboot later, not detecting the card. Swapped slots, cards being seen again. Reboot then issues again. Removed my Xonar sound card, all OK, started installing updates and it stops. I reboot and here we go again, no nic.

Two things, I bought this gfx card second hand and had no issues prior to the purchase but then again can't rule anything out at this stage. Also it's possible I have damaged the motherboard somehow installing the gfx card.

Option are buy a new Z68 motherboard or upgrade.....

When you rebooted did the computer detect & install drivers for the old Lan port?

You may need to uninstall the old lan port driver & tell it to not install drivers for this device.

UGH I feel your pain. Sorry you are having this sort of trouble, it's so horrible when things like this happen. It does, however, sound like a driver problem and not a hardware problem. The very fact that it worked at one point means it can work again. It sounds like it is loading in default drivers that are working then updating them and the updates are causing the problem? Can you roll back the drivers?

Guys, I got fed up of the hassle.

I bought a second hand set of components from the same guy I got the gfx card from.

Now runnning an overclocked i5 6500 @ 4ghz, 16gb or ddr4 and MSI motherboard.

All ok, finishing off some updates just now.

I put the ram from my old pc in my sons pc boosting him to 16gb of ddr3. Just need to sell my i5 2500k and my GTX670, I'll bin the motherboard as I just don't want to risk it.

Thanks for the assistance :)
