Network traffic coming out of my media box is painfully slow. by that i mean circa 10mbit yet traffic going to that machine is mostly fine it seems. as any one got the faintest clue wtf is wrong with the thing?

im reaching either cry or go find a hammer time with this

What is your media box?

How is it and the rest of the network connected?

Is it a new device with the problem from day one, or existing device that was previously okay?

What fixes have you already tried?

the media box is a computer, some msi mobo with a soldered low power celeron chip.

network conists of netgear wndr4500 to gigabit switch inte which the two desktop computers ar connectied, one being the media box the otherbeing my main computer.

i had been having the slow data out of the media box to a wifi connected laptop but otherwise cabled ran at full speed. but not anymore no its via cabled connection too.

ive tried the standard, dissable green ethernet and power soemthing mode, turned off large send offload. one of which has made a difference. also rebooted everything several times

It's always worth trying a different cable even if it's unlikely to be the cause of the problem. If it does happen to be the cable nothing else you do will ever help.

Have you tried manually setting the link speed & duplex rather than leaving them on automatic?

Have you tried safe mode with networking?

Does it make any difference which machine you start the transfer from?

cable tried. no diff

yep tried manual connection speed, though connectingo t 1gb, no change.

not tried safe mode, yet

nope doent matter what machine the transfer in initiated on.

Can you transfer at full speed in both directions between your main desktop and the laptop?

You could try booting the media PC into a Linux Live environment (e.g. Ubuntu). If the transfers are still slow you'll know that it isn't a Windows issue on the media PC.

yes main comp to laptop is fine.

now, however for some reason on booting back out of safe mode into normal mode, the medio comp is now sending data at a more expected speed. litteraly i did nothing, but boot into safe, then back to normal.

WTF??????

could it be maybe the socket on the media comp is dying?

That's computers for you.

Network ports tend to work or not. If it starts playing up again you could try adding a PCI/PCIe network card. They aren't too expensive unless you want something special.

and so i thought it was fine, well the slow in one direction issue still exists if its going to the laptop over wifi, so i try wired again to see if thats still going fast, and its back to slow in one direction.

sigh. wtf
